  • Description

34 Bubblegums And Candies by Preeti Shenoy is a compilation of thirty four short stories, which teach about life lessons and are based on the author’s personal experiences.

    Summary Of The Book

34 Bubblegums And Candies is a book for anyone and everyone. It features a series of short stories with a variety of themes, that were taken from real life events in the author’s life. Many of the stories featured in this book are common, everyday occurrences which every reader can relate with. Since each story attempts to elicit a different type of response, readers can simply pick and choose the story they wish to read without following the natural order of the stories. For instance, in one story Shenoy talks about how the date of her dad’s demise and the birth of her brother’s first child coincided. In another heartwarming story, Shenoy talks about what life is like for children living with HIV.

In this particular story, she emphasizes that these kids are just like any other children and should be hugged and loved. Shenoy also explores the theme of faith as it appears in parent-child relationships by talking about her relationship with her 6-year old daughter. Due to the mundaneness of the stories, readers can easily relate to Shenoy. The book is organized into thirty four chapters, featuring 34 stories. Some of the titles of these chapters are My Special Friend, Feeling Needed, Age Miracles, The Stranger, and Mail Exchange. Shenoy ends each story with inspiring and thought provoking notes that explain how various experiences teach us something valuable.

34 Bubblegums And Candies was published in 2008 and was a national bestseller.

    Not really good

the first story was too good, but as one proceed, the book seems to have lost its "charm" "magnetism"! it was soo ordinary and didn't really deserve to be "a national bestseller"!!! just a random collection of memories...just like the author's blog! so let's just say she could've kept those memories restricted to a blog rather than publishing a whole book and wastind the reader's time...!!!

Its a book full of simplicity.

People who like Ruskin Bond, R.K.Narayan and Sudha Murthy will definately lke this book. It is the 1st book of preeti shenoy and it touched my heart.
If you are looking for entertainment and crap love stories then you wont like it.

Want to rest, or go on vacation or on a journey den go for it.

Reminds you of your golden era of your life, your cool-age!!

I liked the way author steers us through her story!!
A very simple narration, so many incidents that you could relate to our own life.
I cannot assure you that this book is going to blow your mind, no!! it completely depends on your personal interests and opinion.

But In my opinion, for readers looking out for books to read in their leisure without abstruse vocabulary usage, THIS BOOK IS IDEAL!!

    Never go for this one

no head or no tail for these 34 stories which are of 1 and half page..
after reading total book, once I re-checked what I read, I felt very bad for that.

Book is well narrated but no need to publish those small things and name it as a novel.

Go for "Life is what you make it" that's exactly opposite this one. Quite interesting and feel good finally :)

    Worst of Preeti Shenoy

Just Dig my head into this book, recently order and received.. God it’s so boringggg. Unfortunately I read preeti’s second book(Life is what you make it, and I loved it..) thought of investing on the first one.. I don’t know what preeti’ will think whenever she would read her first book in future.. too boring and you feel like puzzled , conclusion are drawn with her own perspectives.. Stories seems to be going nowhere.. I am amazed how it has become national bestseller.. as when you compared ...

'Oh My God' - Summarizes all the pages in the book!

Well, the above review title is lil modified version of a line taken from this book:) (Actuaul line in the book is: "'Oh my god'-summarizes most reactions!").

Many call the author as 'anology queen'. I read her second book 'Life is what you make it' at first and then this one. Trust me, if u'r a person from a traditional Indian family and currrently moving towards modern family & living (knowingly/unknowingly), do not wait to read this book.

"The beauty lies in the details of the life!" (My...

    Author is confused......what to write

The author is caught somewhere between writing a small stories book or a personality development book. The chapters are sweet read, but not impactful. You forget about it after half an hour.
I will recommend this book to new readers or teenagers. Its not a mature read.
