  • Description

A would-be serial killer decides to test his mettle against the greatest detective of his time, the world-famous Hercule Poirot in The A.B.C. Murders.

    Summary of the Book

Hercule Poirot is known for his penchant for solving macabre murders. In fact, he is known so well that he seems to receive fan mail. When he opens the letter, he discovers that it is not fan mail, but a challenge. The writer, calling himself A.B.C., calls Poirot out on his prized grey cells and tells him that he is about to commit a murder. He tells him the place and challenges him to try and stop him. Poirot dismisses the letter for the ravings of a madman or charlatan, but he is about to regret it. Soon, there is a murder, and it happens just where A.B.C. said it would. And then, he sends Poirot yet another letter, telling him the date and place for the next murder. Who is this serial killer and what does he want to prove? Irrespective of his motives, he has made a grave mistake by challenging Hercule Poirot.

    • Agatha Christie was born in Torquay in 1890 and became, quite simply, the best-selling novelist in history. Her first novel, 'The Mysterious Affair at Styles', written towards the end of the First World War, introduced us to Hercule Poirot, who was to become the most popular detective in crime fiction since Sherlock Holmes. She is known throughout the world as the Queen of Crime. Her books have sold over a billion copies in the English language and another billion in 44 foreign languages. She is the author of 80 crime novels and short story collections, 19 plays, and six novels under the name of Mary Westmacott and saw her work translated into more languages than Shakespeare. Her enduring success, enhanced by many film and TV adaptations, is a tribute to the timeless appeal of her characters and the unequalled ingenuity of the plots.

Another Gem from Agatha Christie !!!

Narrative & story was wonderful. It will keep you hooked till the end. Climax was not very obvious but not convincing either to my mind. Anyways it was good if not one of the best from Agatha Christie.
