Aboli (Marathi) (Paperback) Price: Rs.76

Aboli (Marathi) is a collection of 11 short stories written by V. S. Khandekar, one of India’s most eminent Marathi authors, that depicts a kaleidoscopic range of human emotions.

Summary Of The Book

Human life consists of a rich tapestry of multiple emotions expressed over the span of a lifetime. These could range from many contrasting emotions such as anger to sadness, joy to angst, greed to contentment, love to hatred, humor to contempt, jealousy to faith, and so on. V. S. Khandekar’s Aboli (Marathi) is a collection of short stories written in Marathi, that brings these human emotions to the fore with its many fictionalized themes.

Written by the same author, each of these stories, 11 in all, depicts a specific feeling that is considered an essential component of human life. Originally written in the 30th year of the 20th century, these stories showcase human life as a rainbow that consists of many kaleidoscopic feelings, with each story reflecting a particular feeling, separately.

The first story in the book Suwas which means fragrance, describes friendship, and all its shades, beginning from jealousy, and ending with faith, as the title of the story denotes. The second story deals with the richness of the human mind and the power that it has over that of money.

One of the stories, is about the strength of human relations. The story Pahili Chuk punishes its protagonist for his mistake, most severely. In Don Gulam, a couple is shown as being enslaved by their habits. Khadkatala Pani is a poignant story that depicts the supposedly downtrodden, as having a softer bent of mind, than the so called sophisticated lot.

Aramkhurchi highlights the rude behaviour that often accompanies the rich, while Rajkavi discusses the ways in which, nature, man, and God, are concepts distinct from each other.

Finally, the last story Swapne is a touching tale about a newly wed couple who realise that the warmth and importance of the love they share for each other, no less than amrit nectar, in a poisonous and harsh world, is the most important thing in the world, to them. Similarly, all the stories in Aboli (Marathi) are based on individual plots, depicting different feelings.
