Across Frozen Seas

Across Frozen Seas was nominated for the Sheila A. Egoff Award for Children's Literature and the Geoffrey Bilson Award. John Wilson takes on the rich territory of the 1845 Franklin expedition for this young adult title, travelling aboard the ill-fated vessel the HMS Erebus from London, England, en route to Canada's frozen and uncharted north. The adventures of cabin boy David Young come to a modern-day Dave Young in Humboldt, SK, in a series of dreams. Gradually the line between Dave young in Humboldt and David on the Erebus disappears. With men sick of consumption or lost on the tundra, David and his friend George battle to survive the threat of mutiny starvation, and exposure to race across frozen seas.
