Grammar is the framework of a language, it gives proper structure to it. It gives meaning and good form to what is built using it. To gain a good knowledge of any language, a student has to have a good understanding of its grammar rules.
English grammar can be complex and sometimes seem contradictory. Students need to constantly practice grammar concepts to make sure they understand and remember the rules when they speak and write.
This book explains the grammar rules, explains confusing and seemingly contradictory rules, defines the different concepts and also provides exercises for practice. As it is for advanced students, this book just provides concise explanations and then provides a set of practice exercises.
The book focuses on many topics like grammatical patterns, grammatical contrasts, and many more. It explores grammatical patterns like ‘will be - ing’ (like will be leaving), grammatical contrasts like whether to use ‘would’ or ‘used to’ in past tense constructs, and whether to use ‘except’ or ‘except for’.
The book contains more than 100 units of grammar concept explanations. Each unit consists of two pages. It is designed so that each unit is concise and to the point. The book is laid out in this format, the left hand page contains explanations of grammar concepts with examples, while the right hand page contains practice exercises.
The book is designed so that students can choose which unit they want to revise and practice. It is not necessary to work through the book in the order it is laid out. As this is a study and revision guide, it is assumed students already have a good knowledge of English grammar.
If the students choose to start with a unit in the middle of the book, they will still find it complete and self-contained for the topic it is discussing. So, students can concentrate on those topics they have difficulty in understanding, or topics that are a little confusing and need to be clarified again through examples and exercises.
Answer keys are provided at the end of the book for the exercises in each chapter. There is a grammar review section at the end of the book that reviews grammar concepts that the students would have studied in earlier classes.
The study guide section helps students decide which units they want to concentrate on. The keys at the end provide answer keys to chapter exercises and additional exercises. There are four appendix sections, which include passive verb forms, basic question forms, quoting what people think or what they said, and irregular verbs.
This is a complete revision and workout guide for advanced students of English, for students who have already studied English grammar and need to review the concepts they have studied, and practice what they have learnt.

Much better than Wren & MartinsI purchased Advanced English Grammar as a supplementary book for entrance exam preparations and I found it really helpful. But as mentioned, the book is for advanced level English learners. The language is easy to understand. Also the book emphasizes on practice so you will find lots of practice sets after each chapter. For basic English learning, use Wren & Martin's book first then jump to this book. I will highly recommend this book.

IT ROCKS.. RECOMMENDED .... A MUST BUYthis book is awesum. the best part of the book is that it has one-page units . every topic is of one single page, and the one page is more than enof. no wastage of time,no lengthy topics, over use of pages, it has "to-the-point" answers. and in one exercise you can achieve a lot. it was my text book in my first and third year of B.A.of DELHI UNIVERSITY.

Brilliant !The best book on English Grammar so far. The book is divided into 120 chapters, each discussing a particular topic in detail. The explanation is lucid and to the point and the author provides lots of examples to make things clear. A major plus point is that the answers to all exercises have been given at the back of the book.

One of the best bookIt is one of the best books on English Grammar, as it minutely deals with several important matters from the angle of the grammar; it is a book which is really worth buying, .... BUT it is my Sincere advice that before going for this book read some INDIAN author (I suggest for K P Thakur "A Practical English Grammar") then you can more properly understand it.
