She Is Met By Hugh Hornbeam Who Works For Vastone International And Together They Head Off To Find A Suitable Home For Her Future Married Life. Following Gwenda'S Instincts They Head To Devon And Eventually Dillmouth. Gwenda Is Stangely Drawn To A House Called Hillside And ? On A Whim ? She Decided To Buy It.As Gwenda Sets About Redeorating The House, Strange Things Start To Happen; She Asks For A Door To Be Put In A Place Where There Once Was A Door; She Decided Upon A Type Of Wallpaper Only To Discover That That Exact Same Type Of Wallpaper Was There Beforehand; And ? Marple Realises That Gwenda Is Reclooecting A Repressed Memory And Following Further Investigation It Becomes Apparent That In Fact Gwenda Did Live In Hillside Before When She Was Very Young And That Her Father Had Moved There After The Death Of Her Mother Until His New Fiance Suddenly Disappeare After Which He Quickly Took His Own Life And Gwenda Was Sent Back To India To Live With Relatives. They Learn This Information From Mrs Paggett, The Old Cook At Hillside, Walter Fane, The Local Solicitor, Dr Kennedy, Gwenda'S Uncle, And The Local Detective Inspector Primer. They Learn That Helen Was The Singer In An End Of Pier Band Of Threatricals Called The Funnybones, And One By One Gwenda And Hornbeam Seek These Characters Out To Interview Them. They Meet Erskine And Janet Who Were In Charge Of The Troupe And Now Run Guest House In Dilmouthm, Jackie Affick The Pianist Who Now Lives In A Palace And Evie Ballantyne Who Headlines At The Palladium. It Becomes Clear That Any One Of Them Had Enough Motive And Opportunity To Murder Helen, But When A Vital Witness Comes Forward And Agrees To Meet Them They Think They Will Learn Who The Killer Was, Only To Have Their Hopes Dashed And Their Worst Suspicions Confirmed When The Witness Is Found Dead Before She Got A Chance To Talk To Them. Miss Marple Incourages Inspector Primer To Gather All The Suspects In A Room And From There Explains What Happened All Thos Years Ago: How Gwenda'S Has Faked Her Own Death In India In Order To Escape The Authorities Who Were After Her Because Of Her Involvement In A Spate Of Jewel Robberies, How She Had Arranged A Rendez-Vous With Her Husband And Child Back In England, But That This Had All Gone Wrong When They Had Encountered Her Possessive Brother - Dr Kennedy, In A Fit Of Jealousy Kennedy Had Strangled Her And Made It Look Like She Had Run Away. Following Her Death Halliday Had Become Suspicious And Kennedy Had Been Forced To Kill Him As Well. When Confronted By His Crimes Dr Kennedy Confesses His Guilt And Reveals Where He Buried Gwenda'S Mother. Gwenda Lays Flowers At Her Mothers' Grave And Agrees To Marry Hornbeam Since The Two Have Fallen In Love Over The Course Of Their Investigation.
The Moving Finger - Jerry And Joanna Arive Is Sleepy Lymstock In Order For Jerry To Recuperate After A Serious Motorcycling Accident. But Their Expectations Of Quiet And Peace Are Quickly Dashed When They Discover A Poison Pen-Writer Is At Work In The Village. Miss Marple Is Visiting Lymstock In Order To Attend The Funeral Of Colonel Appleton- A Victim Of One Of The Pioson Pen- Letters. When More And More Villagers Start Receiving The Cruel Hate-Mail. Miss Marple Decides To Stay To Find Out Who Cound Be Behind Such Milicious Messages, Jerry And Joanna Are Initiated Into Village Life, As All The Inhabitants Start Popping Round For Tea. It Is Not Long Before They Are Of The Conclusion That The Village Is Full Of Sniping Gossip And When Mrs Symmington, The Solicitor'S Wife, Is Found Dead, They Realise This Gossip Has The Most Sinister Edge. Someone Creeping Round The Women'S Institute Where The Fatal Typewriter Is Stored, A Book With Pages Ripped Out Found In Emily Barton'S Drawing Room, And Mrs Symmington'S Rather Odd Suicide Note'L Can'T Go On' All Complicate The Investigation.
