The Agent Vinod graphic novel. Way too better than my expectations.
Its fat, exhaustive and filled with pure awesomeness. Amazing page quality and qualitative content justifies the price tag.
Thick pages, glossy covers, and the 'art dossier' at the end was something I enjoyed.
Its got guns and girls. Its got all the action.
Storyline is intriguing and keeps you wanting for more... Saumin Patel delivers some delightful graphic art along with his team. The best perhaps. He should make more of these books..Designing, coloring and lettering..too good and perfect.
This is what I call a classic graphic novel. Each page, right from start till the very end is oh-so-wow!
Very happy with the quality of the book. Its slick and probably the best graphic novel based on a bollywood movie.
Eagerly waiting for next issues. Hope they make it because this won't disappoint you. Go for it guys! Totally worth it!
Flipkart, you're the best!
Agent Vinod (The Jungfrau Encounter) is explosive. Buy it to believe it.
Cheers!!
Unlike other movie tie-ins, Jungfrau Encounter is a complete, standalone product in itself. It has no relation to the movie, except in further creating the universe of Agent Vinod. Whether Bond or Vinod Khanna, the idea of a desi spy deserves to be explored further irrespective of its "inspiration". Hopefully this is just a beginning. I look forward to a whole series of these books, movies, and maybe, TV shows.
Coming to the book itself, the first surprise (like someone commented earlier) is how fat the novel is. You tend to expect Indian comics to short-change you, but Jungfrau is as thick as any "phoren" graphic novel and printed on good paper. The art-work is fabulous and pain staking. Each frame looks like it was designed for a live action movie, with wacky camera angles and subtle touches to enrich the scene. Of course, there is a smattering of in-jokes with the artist paying tribute to his film and comic icons. Overall, the novel is fun.
The story is a bit simplistic and the dialogues could be crisper. My favorite part in the novel is the rough story boards at the end, that show how they developed the characters and the ideas. Isn't that something lacking in even the biggest blockbusters from Bollywood?
My love affair with Agent Vinod began when I manage to catch it in theaters, only because the directorial credit had Sriram Raghavan's name. I could not comprehend the overall flak it had received from critics all over, and found it to be a gripping and compelling work of cinema, if not a masterpiece.
The Jungfrau Encounter is an extension of Raghavan's ambitious and signature style of relating a thrilling, globe-trotting story. To see that it has been penned and illustrated by artists completely unrelated to the creative team of the film is very much a surprise because the treatment, the plot and overall style corresponds to that of the film.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself reading this; it has everything an old-school murder mystery/whodunnit enthusiast would love: ample red herrings, dodgy characters, one-room setting and a twist ending. Serving as a direct prequel to the film, it leaves the readers where the film picks up, adding to the anticipation.
The print is glossy and artsy, the one liners are perfectly and suitably over-the-top, and the foreword and afterword by the producer and director of the film respectively reveal the honesty and toil that has gone into perfecting the character of Agent Vinod. Also included are bonus character sketches at the end of the book, which make for a delicious extended read. All-in-all, this is something not to be missed.
Loved Flipkart's new packaging... its cool.
Now over to the Novel, its decent enuf, Well illustrated and a simple narration to build the character of Agent Vinod... Though its another desi version of an American idea, i feel it deserves applause for the initiative... Possibly this will pave the way for more unique "graphic novels"
Story is OK, complements the movie perfectly well.
If the theme was more dark, cud have been brilliant. Lot of bright colors were used.
I liked 4 full page artwork of 4 different origin story of Agent Vinod, that was indeed good.
But it's a very decent effort. If u buy it , u will not regret it.
I didn't buy it from here though as i got a good deal online in somewhere else
Cheers
