Alan Wake (Special Edition) (Games, PC) Price: Rs.699

Third-person shooters are similar to first-person games except that in them, you are able to see the protagonist in entirety performing the actions that you engineer. Alan Wake is a third-person psychological horror game. The game has been developed by Remedy Entertainment and has been published by Nordic Games. The game has been designed for the PC and also for the Xbox. Alan Wake 1.06 is the version released for the PC with Sam Lake and Mikko Rautalahti as its writers.

The game takes place in a fictional town near Washington called Bright Falls where bestselling thriller writer Alan Wake encounters a mysterious disappearance involving his wife. He finds that his wife has disappeared when on vacation to Bright Falls and also finds that whatever he wrote about in his latest book, is coming true. He finds it odd that he has no memory of writing the book from which all the events seem to come alive. Alan Wake is paced exactly like a thriller series on television. Every episode in the game and its story has twists in its plot and possible cliffhangers. Two special episodes in the game are available as DLCs which are The Signal and The Writer.

The game was under production for over five years, which in the gaming industry is a really long time. The ingenuous narrative of the game has had many positive reviews from critics all over for keeping the player fully engaged in gameplay. The main story revolves around a mysterious darkness that has taken over the residents of Bright Falls and turned them into monsters known simply as the Taken.

These enemies have a shield of darkness around them that acts as a protective armor. For them to take any amount of damage, the darkness infused shields have to first be burned away. The game environment provides many places where torches and fresh batteries for those torches are available. The player is also actively encouraged to use environmental light sources to keep the darkness away.

When standing under streetlights the player is impervious to attacks as the Taken cannot enter well lit areas of the game. This gives you the opportunity to regenerate health at a faster pace. Another major aspect of the game, connected to his amnesia about ever writing a novel called Departure is finding the manuscripts of the book scattered about the areas of Bright Falls. Alan Wake reads the events and plot twists in the book and is unable to remember writing it, even though he is aware that it is his own work that he holds in his hands. The Special Edition PC game Alan Wake received a PEGI rating of 16 for mild violence.

Special Edition contains:

  • Alan Wake Game
  • 2 DLCs "The Writer" and "The Signal" Episodes inside the Game.
  • 8 Soundtrack CD

The above special edition contents are included inside the box.

Before you start blaming Steam...its an excellent service firstly.

To install from DVD you have to run the Setup file from you DVD 1.

Put DVD in your drive & run autorun.exe. If you already have steam installed it must be closed.

You do not log into Steam & enter keycode directly...the game will install first on your drive through DVD...then Steam will launch (dvd will install it if its not present on your PC)..you enter the keycode & Steam will verify your game files which got installed from DVD (takes 2-3 minutes)

Then Steam will patch the game automatically if there are any patches.

You can't be serious if you say you downloaded 7GB thats your fault...a patch is maximum 100MB-2GB.

I have 20+ retail games on my Steam & this is the procedure to follow.

If you don't know what you're doing don't post misleading reviews about Steam to prevent people from playing this excellent game.

Besides mostly all games require Steam type services these days...EA has Origin...other games use Games for Windows Live & Rockstar use Social Club.

Yes Steam takes a while to start if you close it but its a minor hiccup..Steam is to PC what Xbox Live is to Xbox 360.

If you dislike Steam then there isn't any other option for you other than to consider console gaming.

Regarding the packaging box not present you shouldn't have used it & contacted flipkart if it arrived in bad condition...flipkart would always help you out on that.

Cheerio! ;)

the graphics are quite good , if you own a gaming pc and have not played this game then get it for sure.

Alan Wake (PC)

The PC version of the famous Alan wake by Microsoft Studios bring something new and a bit different.
The presentation of the game itself should be the selling point. Every chapter is presented as a new episode and every episode ends with a mind bending twist or revelation.
I was disappointed that it only had 5 chapters, but that does not mean that it's a short game. Every chapter (other than the first one) takes more than 90 minutes to complete, atleast it did for me because of my lame skills.
The story is very engaging and the concept of hurting the dark ones in light is something I loved. Its an unforgiving game and there are number of times where you cannot kill every enemy. This is in Normal difficulty and I would not like to imagine what it will be in Nightmare difficulty.

So all in all, if you love games or just want something to kill some time, this is a must buy. I have already pre-ordered american nightmare because I would like to know how the story unfolds.

Recommended to all.

This game is really good. I thought it might be like Resident Evil or Silent Hill but actually this game is really different and enjoyable. Story is very interesting, game is really tricky, graphics is eye catchy and background music really gets you into the game.

My gaming rig is AMD Athlon X3[445] 3.1Ghz, 8Gb DDr3, Nvidia 550ti Graphics, Asus Xonar Audio with 750Gb Hdd. I get a very decent framerate and I'm sure people who are using anything below this specification can still enjoy the game. I don't think this game has that high system requirement.

Overall I'll rate this game as follows

Gameplay : 7/10
Graphics : 8/10
Story : 8/10
OST : 6/10

And its based on the Novel by Rick Burroughs, trust me it has a fantastic story!!
The soundtrack also in this game by Poets Of the Fall was very well done, totally awesome soundtrack!!
