Alcatel OT 813D

Been using the phone for the past few days, and its a fairly good deal. Everything works wifi, touchscreen camera, 8gb SDcard. The phone seems to have fairly high build quality standards.

The only problems I am facing is that on connection with the computer and writing to SDcard is very very slow in comparison to other phones. Ive used the same card in other phones, but this phone is very slow.

Also the 3.5mm jack only activates on connection to headphones, and not on connection to speakers, or amplifier. The audio chip in the phone is also not of high quality and the audio distorts on high volume, inspite of using different headphones.

Just received the phone. Very fast delivery and a very very cool handset for the price. Very solid build and nice interface. Touch is slightly sluggish (requires a firm press of the finger)but is glitch free. Very good apps installed, and all work fine.

Very bright and clear screen, and big soft querty keys, that make typing a breeze. Good combo of shortcuts (Read the manual in detail) which make navigating very swift.

Sound quality is also decent, with a very clear handsfree speaker.

I just wish I could get a 'black' edition instead of blue, but it isn't that gleam either.

Just have to see, how long the goodness lasts.

hi, purchased this mobile from flipkart. and using this from past one week. alcatel is a really nice company which is not popular in india , dont know why. but I purchased this with out thinking twice. I took this for my wifi usage and the wi-fi,browser, are performing at its best. and very easy to use also. happy with initial performance. battery not very good for my usage , need to give a full dinner(charge) after i reach home in evening. but how much one can expect for this tiny price . after you use it for some time , one will think how other companies are looting for the same features like wifi. i believe this is the cheapest and nicely working wifi enabled phone available in the market. no need to worry about service center as even big cos like nokia and samsung dont give proper service in most of the towns . so if phone is out of order throw it and order a new in flipkart. bye.

I bought the Alcatel OT-813D in May 2012, and was quite happy with it initially.
Pros:
1. Has a nice clear screen.
2. Allows me to add widgets on 5 different screens which I can scroll through.
3. The touch is quite sensitive.
4. Has a great option to decide the menu items I want displayed in the menu list. So, if I use just Calls and Messages, I can decide to display just those two.
5. Since it is a touch screen, it has an option to lock the screen while making a call - to prevent accidentally ending the call.
6. The QWERTY keypad buttons are large enough and usually the right buttons can be pressed.

Cons:
1. Since yesterday, my phone has not allowed me to add any new contacts. Every time I try to add new contacts or edit existing ones, my phone shuts down. And then turns back on with the battery indicator showing zero charge.
2. It has dual sim, and I am unable to set a sim as default for calls/messages. The phone has the annoying habit of asking for which SIM to use to make the call or message.
3. The camera is dismal and all photographs look like they were taken in low light. It is next to impossible to identify the picture taken. Since I have a separate camera and did not buy the phone for its camera capabilities, I don;t care much about this issue.
4. Does not have a LOCK function. All it has is swipe to unlock with no way of putting in a number lock- which is a feature even the most basic phones possess.

Had it not been for the software problem - not allowing addition of names - and the absence of Lock, I'd have given it 4 stars.

The phone has not given me any problems for 6 months. Now that the software problem has come to light, I don't know what else is going to go wrong.

I bought this primarily because i wanted a dual sim plus a qwerty phone. The other options were Nokia Asha and the micromax phones.

Since I dont trust the Micromax ones, after comparing the features along with other models, I zeroed in on this one.

My review after a use of one week:

- Value for money.
- Good keypad.
- Good for calls and message.
- Phone is extremely lightweight. Lighter than the non-qwerty phones even.
- Black and and Blue color make the phone look tacky. Black is also available but not on FK. Mine is blue.
- Battery life is quite good. Phone lasted for 3 days once.
- Havent tried wifi so cant comment.
- Touchscreen is basic, resistive in nature.

Overall im giving four stars for what it is giving at the price offered. But go for black if you ask me!
