Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy undertakes the adventure of his lifetime to find a treasure, but ends up finding something much more valuable in The Alchemist: A Graphic Novel.

    Summary Of The Book

Santiago, who is the protagonist of this novel, is an Andalusian shepherd boy who decides to travel away from his home in Spain. His destination is a desert in Egypt, and he is going to look for a treasure buried in the pyramids. He decides to embark on this journey, believing a series of dreams to be prophetic.

Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, who tells him that there is a treasure in the pyramids of Egypt. Further on, he meets Melchizedek, a man who says he is a king, who introduces him to the concept of a Personal Legend. All the people he meets point Santiago towards the direction of his quest. Although nobody knows what the specific treasure is, or whether he will be able to overcome the obstacles along the way, he goes ahead with their support.

Some time into his travels, he meets an Englishman who travels with him, and later, a beautiful Arabian girl called Fatima, whom he falls in love with. When he asks her to marry him, she asks him to find his treasure first. Although her reaction perplexes him at first, towards the end of the novel, when Santiago meets the Alchemist and realises what his treasure was, he understands that true love will never come in the way of realising one's personal goals. He also understands what it means to trust oneself and read the signs that life leaves for one to read.

A moving tale of adventure, risks, love, meaning, purpose and self-discovery, this book has motivated several million people around the world.

The Alchemist: A Graphic Novel was first written in 1988 in Portuguese, sold more than 65 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 56 languages. The graphic novel was produced in 2010 by HarperOne, with the adaptation done by Derek Ruiz and the artwork done by Daniel Sampere.

One of the greatest stories ever told...

I have read the novel version before, but when I saw this graphic version, I just had to read it again because I am an artist too and Paulo speaks so highly about the art here.
The art is good and would impress 90% people. However, because of my kind of exposure to graphic novel art, I think the art could be done better. There is scope for improvement. But since the story itself is so gripping, this one is definitely for the collection! Go ahead and buy it, you will be proud 20 years later th...

    Looks good in my collection

The graphic novel is as good as its novel version. The Artwork and graphic design is excellent. But for those who have not read the novel version, first go through it then select this one to read. Mr. Paulo Coelho is an excellent writer and "The Alchemist" is an excellent motivational story. Once you start reading this book, you will be drifted to another world, and you'll not be able to close the book unless you finish it.

    Awesome Graphic Novel

This Graphic novel is great and does visualize the Novel in a great way. I felt only the last part of the Graphic Novel is too crisp to give the actual feel that the Novel gave.

Very close to the original novel format. Loved it!

This comic book format of the novel 'The Alchemist' is exceptional, and enkindles the same feeling that I got when I read the original novel format. This is a treat to all those readers who can not start of with a big novel. It will open up the world of Paulo Coelho's writings to such readers. A very nicely conceptualized book, and a welcome indeed!

4 stars, because I have read he original book, and felt the graphic version short. But again, no graphic version, keeping up with the space cons...

A BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED GRAPHIC NOVEL WITH DEPTH AND AURA!!!

Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist, has been hailed as a best seller and also one of the most inspiring books of the recent times. It has been translated into seventy one different languages and has sold over forty million copies worldwide. Coelho always had the desire for it to be transformed into a graphic format but no one came close to his vision of what such a transformation should be like. 1000 LIKES....

Libraries with graphic novel collections will probably want to add this one. I would say teens and up would be a good audience for the book. If you have not read the novel before, this is a good way to do it.
I think the adaption by Derek Ruiz does a good job of bringing the novel to life for readers. The art by Daniel Sampere is well suited to the tale. The art is colorful, and it brings the setting of the tale to life. The graphic novel is a very easy book to read; it took...
