These speakers are good!
The size of the entire speaker system is small and is easy to setup. There is small status LED light on the top-front side of right satellite which only tells that the system is on or off. The volume control is located on the top of right satellite and the power switch at its back side. And the subwoofer out and power in sockets are on the back of right satellite too. The entire system looks neat and its design is good and makes it look more expensive than it really is.

The sound quality of the speakers is great! The frequency response is flat. The lows are tight and the highs are crispy clear. The mid range is clearly audible too. Due to the small size of the subwoofer driver(4 inches) the lows are limited to 50Hz and below it nothing is audible. However, when the volume is cranked up, the frequencies lower than 50Hz are converted to disortion.(The weakness of Bass Reflex/Ported systems). But if you have a subwoofer driver larger than 6 inches with enclosure, you can easily connect it to them using a 3.5mm plug(used in system as subwoofer out). And you'll notice the increase in sub-bass frequency response. The lows sometimes reach down to 25 Hz and below it the bass can be felt. But the music may sound unnatural as the frequencies below 30 Hz add a kind of earthquake like effect and you'll be able to hear and feel the bass frequencies which are cut off by the amplifiers in the bigger systems and limited in this system dur to small sub.
The volume of the system is not too hight but can easily fill a medium sized room.
The the best thing about this system is its audio quality and small size. If that is all you need...go for it!

A very good pair of speakers. Optimum for your room usage. i am not sure if the power will be sufficient enough to play in parties however that is not the reason why i purchased this. I wanted a pair of good speakers, decently priced, a good brand name, and 3.5 mm jack connectivity so that i could connect it to my laptop as well as my ipod. And thankfully i have got all that I desired for plus the looks of the speakers are really unique and the materials used are also of very good quality and that does grab an attention.
Cons: 1. the power button is a bit iffy and seems fragile.
2. i got the owner's manual in some other european language instead of english.

Flipkart's service is undoubtedly excellent. this is my 4th purchase from flipkart.

I brought these speakers almost 2 years ago.
I ordered creative sbs series 2.1 speakers initially, but when i went to the shop to collect them, i saw Altec Lansing BXR1221 nearby & told the shopkeeper to play some music on them. I was impressed. When i played creative sbs on the same song, i felt enormous difference in the audio quality.
These speakers have sufficient bass (but no bass control which doesnt bother me) & are excellent for an average sized room.
The best part of altec lansing speakers are unlike other speakers, audio is absolutely clear even at full volume & voice doesnt crack.
Perfect for music, movies & games. Just plug them in, play some music & get ready for the awesomeness & party of your life.

Took delivery of the Altec Lansing BXR1221 about 40 minutes back. The Flipkart delivery and service was top notch as usual. In fact, so good is the packaging that at times you get frustrated trying to unwrap the material.

Now coming to the product itself
Initial impressions suggest that the sound quality and clarity is perfect even at higher volumes and could not find any tendency of crackling. Bass seems to be good but a bass controller is missing but certainly not a deal breaker.

Perfectly adequate for an average sized room.So far I am a happy user

"Altec Lansing BXR1221 Speaker _Value for money

I ordered this item on 10th April 2012 and received delivery in 48 hours. A plus point for Flipkart, as always.

I had somehow gathered the erroneous impression that it was an USB powered speaker. It turned out that I was wrong. The speakers need a separate power source and a transformer/power cord is provided in the package. And packaging was excellent – both by the manufacturer and also by Flipkart.

Coming to the more intimate parts. Marks on looks are a 10 on 10. Matt finish black speakers look more expensive than they are. The speakers are small and light weight and would comfortably fit even onto a small PC table. The woofer has to be placed on the ground, however. The woofer looks nice enough but could look better. The woofer has two speakers in one box, one of them pointing vertically downwards for reasons that I could not quite fathom.

Unlike some other sound systems that I have used, this is one system where the woofer can be made optional at the discretion of the user, in case bassw is not a requirement. In my previous system, the amplifier was placed in the woofer box. The power cord went into the woofer box. The PC outlet was connected to the woofer box. The speakers derived their signals from the woofer box.

Hence I was surprised to find that in this case the amplifier is built into the Right speaker. The power cord connects to the Right speaker, the PC is connected to the Right speaker and the woofer also derives its signal from the same Right speaker. Hence the woofer can be made inoperative by simply unplugging it from the Right speaker. The power switch is inconveniently placed at the back of the Right speaker. The volume control is conveniently placed on top of the Right speaker. The LED in front of the Right speaker also is a nice touch. The tiny black rubber shoes on the speaker stands prevent slippage and accidental shifting of the speakers on the table.

For testing I played mostly classical & modern rock, rock- and- roll and some country music. The treble is excellent and sound on most high frequencies is crystal clear and far superior to my earlier set. The stereo effect is superb and individual instruments are easily identified. I used VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player and some other players with Real Tech audio. At 70- 72% of input volume to the amplifier there is very low distortion even when the speakers are at full volume. I am ever so slightly disappointed with the bass, though. The woofer tapers off at lower volumes but is better off at higher volumes and I therefore wish there was a separate volume control for the woofer. That having been said, the Altec Lansing BXR1221 Speaker set is still superior to the built-in stereo speakers in the 20 inch monitor of my HP desktop PC as also the speakers of the 32 inch Samsung LCD TV that I own and use.

The system is useful and a good buy for a medium sized 20 x 20 feet room for home listening, though perhaps not good enough for a party in a large hall.

But then, at this price who is complaining?
