A Gift for my child

Firstly, Got AMD FX-4100 against all advises to go for Intel i5 for a gaming PC. Secondly, assembled a gaming PC from the scratch for the first time. My experience before is just dabbling with the home PC and office PC's along with colleagues and technicians. Never done anything like this before all alone. I maintain all my PC's and laptop.

No regrets. Of course, you get it at half the price of Intel i5-2500K (6233 against 12,932). I did compare the performances from various sources on the net. Made a gaming PC from the scratch.

I got most of the things from Flipkart and delivery started immediately in a couple of days. Of course, there were several batches of deliveries and I had to track and communicate with customer care to expedite important components for the assembly. They were very cooperative and responded immediately.

My rig is
CPU: AMD FX-4100, 3.6 GHz
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3EVO
Motherboard: Biostar TA990FxE
RAM: G.Skill RipjawsZ DDR3 16GB RAM (F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL)Quad Channel,
Graphic Card: MSI AMD/ATI R6850 Cyclone 1GDS Power Edition/OC 1GDDR5
Power Supply: Seasonic S12II-520 520 Watts PSU
Cabinet: Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced Mid Tower Cabinet
HDD: WD Caviar Green 1 TB HDD Internal Hard Drive (WD10EARX)
SSD: Verbatim 64 GB Internal Solid State Drive
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B3ST Internal Optical Drive (Black)
Monitor: Dell 24 Inch Full HD WideScreen LED Monitor (ST2420L)
Audio: Logitech Z506 5.1 Multimedia Speakers
Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech Wireless Combo (MK320) USB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

Going great so far. The system is on all waking hours and even after keeping it on for several days continuously for updating windows and other softwares, the temperature display on the motherboard did not exceed 34 deg. C without Air conditioning. The minimum being 28 deg. C.

Packaging was too good.

Response to deliveries and logistics communication is too good. You get emails and SMS's immediately.

Affordable FX

Plan to play the latest games in their full glory then gift yourself this amazing double module quad core processor of the
FX series and pair it with Radeon 6950 or 6870 or 6850 for an amazing experience .

Clocked at 3.6GHz with plenty of room for OverClocking , a large cache to take advantage of the overclock, and a modest price of around 6.5K makes this processor great for gaming in particular and everyday use in general

As the FX series chips support 1866MHz RAM
to get the best benefit from the overclock its very important that you use atleast 1600MHz ram like the corsair vengence and
overclock not just by increasing the multiplier of the cpu
but by increasing the FSB frequency and adjusting cpu multiplier to remain at 4.1-4.2 GHz and adjusting your memory divider to remain close to the 1866MHz mark or higher if your ram can take it.

if u r confuse between x4 970 & fx4100 then this review will help.

powerful processor. At first I was confuse between Fx4100 & phenom II x4 970. Both are available in Flipkart. It's true 970 is better than 4100 in performance but just a little. But 4100 has many plus point i.e. it's am3+ socket so you don't need to change your mb in near future, It consumes less power 95watt & almost gives equal performance as x4 970 which is 125 watt. It supports turbo feature so u don't need Overclocking most of time. & one can save more than 3k as it doesn't need costly motherboard (95 watt asus m5a78lmlx) is grt for it but in 970 you need costly mb & extra cooler as 125 watt. use this extra budget in Graphics card & you can beat 970 in performance & even i5. Most people doesn't prefer amd because they say it produce more heat. It was a myth & it happened in early 2000 but now both intel & amd produce same heat. you might think about warranty but who gets a warranty on a processor? most processor replaced because they are outdated but not because they are damaged.
finally if budget is not a matter for u then go for 970 & if u r on a budget then go for it which can perform almost equally as 970. & off course flipkart did a grt job in delivery. you can trust them.

FX 4100 VS i5-2500K

I saw a lot of people comparing fx with intel... basically I am not the guy who goes on reviews .. I go on specifications...!!

First a fall the biggest truth i5-2500K costs twise than this affordable processor..!!

Secondly, if you want to build a gaming PC then its better to buy FX 4100 + AMD Graphic card insted of i5-2500K .... its goona cost the same..!!!

and here's the comparison

- Both quad core..
- FX @ 3.6 GHZ AND i5-2500K 3.3 GHZ
- FX 12 MB cache memory i5-2500K 6 MB
- Both have integrated graphics
- Both score arount 7.2 in windows 7 ratings
- Maximum Thermal Design Power (TDP): AMD and i5-2500K both have
95 W

I use AMD ... do hardcore gaming like ( GTA 4,NFS RUN,BATTLEFIED 3,MW3.BATMAN... etc...

I never faced any problems with AMD FX .... it just works great
AT HIGH settings...

OVERCLOCKING : Yes it do supports ... but I never did it because
3.6 GHz..... I never feel like doing overclocking....!!!

I brought this processor from flipkart and first of all, hats off to them for the superb service and packaging.

I've fused this processor with the Asus M5A88-M mobo, 4gb corsair xms3 ram and XFX HD Radeon 6770 gpu.

The performance is just apt for my needs. I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything, but i do play NFS The Run and Crysis 2 sometimes and this just works fine. I'm getting around 60fps in crysis 2 (hardcore settings) and the capped 30fps in NFS The Run (ultra). Btw i play at 720p resolution.

The remaining day to day normal works are just fine. Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit rates this processor at 7.2 out of 7.9. Temperatures are just fine ranging from a super low 34C - 62C. But the power consumption is higher than rated. Its rated at 95w and consumes 130w.

If you want to overclock its so damn easy and simple. But i recommend using a custom cooler for this cpu if you wanna push this to the limits.

Well,to be honest this is not a traditional quad core is a dual module processor and each module has 2 integer processing cores and 1 floating point unit (FPU).The 2 integer cores share 1 FPU.Now here is the catch when ever both the integer cores need's to do the floating point arithmetics at the same time,1 has to wait which reduces the performance, and gaming is all about floating point arithmetics.
Win7 is not designed for this type of shared core design and in fact it does not have any appropriate job scheduling algorithm to do so.on the other hand win8 is designed keeping FX in mind and the performance of this processor increases by about 10-20% on win8
AMD has announced to introduce a new instruction set for floating point job scheduling in the 2nd generation of FX series processor's called piledriver
Piledriver will be having 10 to 12 cores i.e 5 to 6 modules and with it's new and improved instruction set and a new floating point scheduler,it will really revolutionize the computer industry.AMD will be competing neck to neck with Intel's 3rd gen ivy bridge
Piledriver is set to released in the last quarter of 2012

Best in Price an Performance !!!

Its actually has 2 cores and quad thread like the core i3 but its better than core i3 in overclocking and heat generation.

Lots of guys in net says its not better as it has low benchmark scores but its not so.....

this CPU can be overclocked up to 4.6 GHz with an increase in heat generation, at full load overclocked, the temp can go up to 80 degree Celsius (Comparatively less as at normal load core i3 generates 65-68 degree Celcius) !!

For gaming its very good if u ignore the heat generation !! I have played the following games on it at 1360*768 at ultra high settings :
Battlefield 3
NFS Hot Pursuit 2010
NFS The Run
Dragon Age 2
Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 2

Go for it as its the best low budget CPU and it will not let you down !!!

If your a gamer then better choose AMD cause its good for gaming
Performance will be awesome i have been using this processor for the past 8 months without any problem.
AMD FX 4100 and intel i-5 are the same the cache size will be more for AMD compared to Intel.

Worth every rupee!

It's a very good CPU for a tight budget PC. Most Importantly it's unlocked.

Most people like this processor because it's a quad core CPU but take my advice, disable the 3rd and the 4th cores and overclock it to 4 maybe even 4.2 GHz and you have a solid processor. Your power consumption drops by around 7W-8W and temperature by a couple of degrees while your system feels more "snappy". It's because this processor has two bays each with two cores. This means the two cores in each bay are fighting for the resources. Also the extra cores actually don't have some components those instructions are executed by the primary core in each bay any ways. Disable the extra cores and you get a bump of single core performance by up to 20%. Couple that with overclocking and you have yourself an increment of about 35%-40%.

Lastly if you plan to overclock (which you should) have good ventilation in your cabinet. Expensive cooling is NOT required but have as many cabinet fans as possible.

For Sahil.. again.

Hi Sahil, your system config seems fine, there is one major bottleneck I see, and its the Graphics Card :
GFx of Zotac Nvidia Geforce GT610 2GB DDR3
You are having very very low end graphics card.. If I had a system configuration like yours I would go for any mid range graphics card, something like :
Nvidia 540\640 or 550\640.. with GDDR5 type RAM, believe me 1-2 GB RAM of Graphics card might not make that difference as it would make with GDDR5 instead of GDDR3 graphics RAM..
Similarly you can look for AMD\ATI graphics card in the range starting from 6650\6670.

You can start your search for Graphics cards here :[]=facets.price_range%255B%255D%3DRs.%2B5001%2B-%2BRs.%2B10000&p[]=sort%3Dprice_asc&sid=6bo%2Cg0i%2C6sn&layout=grid

Basically look for Cards from price 5000, you will find a sweet spot which will meet your needs.

Having said all that, I am not saying that this Processor isn't worth purchase, it is actually. But seems like you can put some life to your system with my suggestion and can wait for a couple years for a full fledged upgrade.. hope that helps!!
