Amelia's Notebook: A Good Read For All Review by Hanna C.As an eighth grader, I was pretty sure that Amelia's Notebook was just another picture book that my second-grade sister brought home. One day, I was bored and I flipped through the book. The colorful pictures certainly caught my eye, and the story seemed realistic and interesting. So here's the plot: In the story, Amelia is a ten year old girl moving from California to Oregon. She's not exactly happy about being taken away from her friends and her old school, but she manages to deal with it, with the help of her mom and her new teacher, Mr. Nudel. She also introduces us to her older sister, Cleo (who she doesn't always get along with but is also sometimes nice to.) As we follow amelia along on her fourth grade adventures, we feel like she's a real person that we know.
Yesterday, as I was looking around on the internet, I found a reveiw from a Christian web site that said that the bright drawings on the pages were "crude" and that Amelia was an immature character. I was stunned. In my opinion, the drawings were wonderfully detailed for a "fourth grader". But that's my opinion-read the book to see what you think. (Just to let you know, I'm Christian, so there was no religious bias here.)
All in all, I'd say that Amelia's notebook is pretty good. If you are thirteen, seven, or thirty-eight, you can enjoy this book. And about the other Amelia Notebooks- I think they just keep getting better! (Amelia's Seventh Grade Notebook and The All New Amelia are some of my favorites.)
