India is endowed with a great wealth of biological diversity in its forests, glaciers, reviers, reservoirs, lakes, coastal areas and wetlands but in the recent years, following massive anthropogenic development there has been rapid industrialization in the country, resulting in the degreadation of the environment and loss of much biodiversity, consequent upon fragmentation of the habitat. There is an urgent need to conserve it, other wise posterity will not forgive us.

Dr. B.N. Pandey (b. 1946), Professor and Head, Dept. of Zoology, Magadh University, Bodh Gaya has brilliant academic career. he was awarded Gold Medals for standing first in first class both at B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. level. he is recipients of many other Gold Medals such as Congress of Zoology Gold Medal in 1995& 1998, Dorabjee Tata Gold Medal (2000) and Century Eminent Scientists Gold Medal (1998-2000) by Zoological Society of India; Scientists of the Year-2002 Gold Medal by National Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi.
