As a primary source published in 1881, this book provided us with a perspective of science and hygiene during the nineteenth century. The book discussed the basic principles and beliefs of Joseph Lister's theories of hygiene before and after surgery and the process of antisepsis during surgery. It concluded with the results and consequences of Lister's principles, helping us to make a connection between the innovation and history. We used this primary to gain a better understanding of the people's outlook on science at the time. We used the source to identify the cause and effect of the development of the principles of antiseptics over time.
