More Money Than God: Hedge Funds And The Making Of The New Elite traces the history of hedge funds and profiles some of the most renowned hedge fund managers.

    Summary Of The Book

Hedge funds as an investment model have been around for more than half a century. However, interest in this form of investment has gained more attention in recent years, especially, after the financial crisis of 2008-2009.

Hedge fund investors emerged unscathed from this crisis. In fact, a lot of them grew wealthier during this period. This has resulted in a lot of attention being focused on them in recent times. More Money Than God: Hedge Funds And The Making Of The New Elite traces the history of this industry.

The author examines the concept of hedge funds, their evolution, the investment tools, and the personalities who dominated this industry. The author profiles many interesting hedge fund investors and their controversial personalities.

One of them, Michael Steinhardt, is said to be cold and ruthless. When one of his employees, pushed to the limit, expressed a desire to kill himself, the boss asked if he could witness the event. There are others like the brilliant mathematician and code breaker Jim Simons, and Ken Griffin, who traded in convertible bonds while at Harvard.

The author also argues that hedge funds are the future of financial markets, probably their potential savior. Through many illustrative stories, he highlights how hedge fund investors have managed to spot opportunities and have risked their fortunes on their beliefs.

More Money Than God: Hedge Funds And The Making Of The New Elite is a thorough analysis of hedge funds, and the people who defined and redefined this investment model and made fortunes out of it. It is an interesting read that presents an alternative view, one in support of hedge funds, and argues for the industry to stay free of regulations.

More Money Than God: Hedge Funds And The Making Of The New Elite received the Gerald Loeb Award in 2011 and was also on the New York Times Bestsellers list.

More than a jack of all trades!

The title may sound a bit pompous, but this is a superbly well documented collection about some of the most successful hedge funds in the world. It also gives their history over the past 50 years. There is this sense of credibility gap after finishing the book. Several chapters in this reveal how wealthy, powerful and potentially dangerous some of the funds really are. The chapters discuss various phases of different hedge funds and how they went about their trading operations to crack the my...

A Birds eye view of the history of hedge funds

If you wanted to know everything you can about hedge funds and a couple of days to spare ...this is the book for it.

Starts off with the very "first" hedge fund of how it came to be and goes off into how the whole industry evolves. As such the story line is pretty linear and in each chapter or section , the author focuses on a particular fund.

Dont get me wrong, this is a pretty lite read.....doesnt go into too many unnecessary details and has an interesting look at the people who made it big.
