Loved it ...

The book is beautifully written. Simple flowing language and must read for all parents.
Chronicles the efforts of a working mother to raise her kids with the right values and the feeling that hard work earns dividend.
Although the book showcases Chinese way of parenting, but is very similar to Indian style.
The way we compare our kids, criticize them in front of everyone, ask them to focus only on studies and don't waste time on sports and art.

I had originally picked up the book because of ...

Excellent perspective

It is admittedly not a book that 'preaches' parenting. It is a book that tells a mother's experience in bringing up her daughters' in a way she passionately believed to be the right way (the Asian way).

Being an Indian parent with middle class moorings, I empathize with her on many occasions and agree with her on staying grounded to the values but she is driven to the extreme in her parenting methods. The contrast between the outcomes of her extreme parenting as virtuous circle and the vici...

Guidelines to parenting

this book is a great book......awesome piece of writing. Illustrates the correct way of raising a child according to "tiger mother"....
A good and debatable book about the correct way of raising a successful and a standout child.

The Story of a Mother

I know this book has invited a lot of criticism so I decided to read it even though I am just a teenager.
Firstly, this book chronicles the life of a working mother, trying to extract the best out of her kids. Its a memoir of a mother, not a "mastering the art of parenthood" kind of book. The author learns as much from her daughters as she teaches them. That being said, I really enjoyed reading this book, its a great story for mothers and daughters alike and sons and fathers. My mom and I had...

Battle Hymn for the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua

Amy Chua’s Battle Hymn for the Tiger Mother chronicles a community’s social and societal mores, even while exposing its angst in a trans-placed circumstance.
Yes, it is one approach to parenting, to building character, and instilling value systems in the young, for after all ‘the child is the father of the man’. However, the debate is wide open as to whether these ‘age-old’ techniques that have stood the test of time in a particular milieu till a certain period will still abide in a time, s...

Amazingly truthful-A mom's struggle to get the best out of her girls!

Found the book totally hilarious..Amy trying her "parenting techniques" on Coco too!
Which turns out to be a total disaster...(might be b'coz Coco does'nt have the Asian lineage...)
The book is an eyeopener,if you don't see it as a perfect parenting guide, simply, b'coz its not meant to be one..
The book is all about the fact that, kids are lot more stronger than what we think them to be..
And truly agree with Amy Chua about the need to shed the pretences while praising your kids..

Strong opinions but a lovely read

The book is engaging and thought -provoking and thus a wonderful read. The author does have extreme opinions in certain places however, being an Indian mother I can certainly relate to the moorings of this Tiger Mom. You don't have to agree with the author , 100% , but no matter what your opinions on parenting are you will surely find the book a good mirror to reflect and re-think and reform your own beliefs about parenting. Highly recommended.

A good book!

Amy Chua has done a fine job - both of raising her kids and writing this book. I completely identify with her beliefs and values of parenting. I wish I had more of her determination, dedication and perseverance as a parent. She is right - letting the kids do exactly as they want/ or what keeps them happy is 'lazy parenting'!

A must read for Indian Mothers

The so called 'advanced' parents in India must read this book to understand the futility of raising kids in western style. The recent riots in London suggest distinctly the implications of western way of parenting.
In her book the battle hymn of the tiger mother Amy Chua has highlighted the dividend one draws if the child is made to realise that life is not all fun but contains elements of hard work and drawing dividend out of it.
However Chua has never proposed any dogma while stating about ...

One extreme in parenting style

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother is a book written by Amy Chua. Amy Chua is a Chinese American. In this book she writes about her strong and willful parenting style as a Chinese mother and compares it with the weak American style of parenting. Americans hold their children’s whims and wishes above their own, whereas Chinese children are enforced to act as per their parents’ wishes and choices.

Amy is a Professor at Yale University of Law and she has two daughters. The eldest daughter, Sophi...
