"Helium" by Jaspreet Singh
This book in my opinion works best as a meditation on grief and how it impacts a human being. The premise is well known as one of the most, if not the most, horrific incidents in independent India. The author while objectively laying out the details of the incident makes it seem effortless when he meshes them with what his characters go through.
The realistic matter-of-fact ending may come as a shock initially but I found it meaningful after expending some thought.
