  • Description
Somewhere, behind closed doors, in her solitary world; somewhere, under the sheets with an indifferent lover; somewhere, is a woman who will not be denied. Trapped for fifteen years in the stranglehold of a dead marriage and soulless household domesticity, the beautiful, full-bodied and passionate Meera Patel depends on her memories and her flights of fancy to soothe the aches that wrack her body; to quieten an unquenchable need. Until one cataclysmic day in Mumbai, when she finally breaks free... Bold, brazen and defiant, Sita's Curse looks at the hypocrisy of Indian society and tells the compelling story of a middle-class Indian housewife's urgent need for love, respect, acceptance - and sexual fulfilment.

The title is an insult to Sita. The author has portrayed a wrong side of a woman. I cannot the rate the book even one, but i have to as i cant proceed submitting this review.

    some reflections on sita's curse

    to sreemoyee piu kundu,

Well, first of all congratulations for such a brave attempt like Sita’s Curse. To be honest, I had some sort of bizarre experience reading your book… at times I embraced it, at times I felt, to some extent, a little down-heart with it for certain reasons… meera’s courage to brave her way out in a new world- I mean, hats off to her. But there are certain points I want to make.
    1. You know what I feel to be the weakest part of your novel? That’s m...

Must Read for all who believe in feminism

    Sita's Curse

Just finished reading Sita's curse. And I have no words to express my appreciation for the book. Its the first of its genre and I am damn sure that its going to be bestseller. The only text I read which openly glorified a sexually liberated women. The protagonist, Meera, is in every woman. And every woman is Meera.
The story begins with Young Meera and his twin brother Karthik. Author has beautifully described the relationship between siblings. Till the end of the story, Meera ...

    amazing book...

All the real life incidences are their which normally a woman face day to day... no man ever digest the truth that a women do have her fantasy world which want to experience with her husband but they react & treat like same the way writer mentioned as women have to right on her own sex life. I like the concept as well writing too.

Waste of money: a bogus writing... Gross.

Please readers do not buy this book. There's no "Femininsm " in having desire to have sex with any one. There's no story in it, Woman' desire has been presented in a very wrong way. There are better way to show feminism.

Started off well, but lost the flow somewhere

With Sita's Curse The Language of Desire, the author Sreemoyee Piu Kundu has attempted to tell a story which we still prefer to keep inside the closet. It is Erotica with liberal dosage of sex and depiction of relationships bordering on incest. At times, I felt there was a lot of unnecessary sex involved, just for titillating the readers.

The plot, at the beginning of the story, started off quite well and was able to evoke interest in me.The author incorporated social issues like the Asaram ...

    Sita's Curse

Very rarely I come across a novel which grips my attention till I put the book down. And this certainly was one. The moment I started the page with" My name is Meera" I was hooked till the end.

Sreemoyee Piu Kundu has woven a tale of a woman who is one among us. The trials, tribulations and dreams she has evoked are of mutual longings. Meera is somebody who has a mind of her own. Her dreams are the dreams of thousands of Indian girls who are forced to marry in a relationship which wont have ...

    Quite an effort !

I don't know if any decent erotica is out there in Indian market. And that, makes this effort of Sreemoyi, quite a brave one. Writing a full-on novel that is centered on sexuality, that too, women's sexuality. That is something worth mention.

The writer portrays interesting picture of the characters. From villagers to mumbaikars. From teachers to 'Guruji'. Each one holds that specific interesting theme that is enough to keep you turn the pages. Talking about the main content - erotica, it is...

    Sita's Curse-much more than erotica

Was it the sensuality or the feminity? Was it the quest for love or lust that bound me to the book? I don't know for sure. But yeah, for me, the book was much more than few pages of paper bound by a beautiful cover.

The media abounds in references to the book.Everywhere the air seems to be drenched in the sensuous fragrance of erotica. But I beg to differ. Sita's curse may have wonderful illustrations of erotica, however, that's just a medium which the author has used to talk about something ...
