The third part of the Apu trilogy, based on the immortal novel by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, and directed by Satyajit Ray, introduced for the first time two new comers, Soumitra Chatterjee and Sharmila Tagore, both of whom, subsequently, became legends of Indian cinema. An young Apu, just out of college, goes to attend the marriage ceremony of his dear friend's cousin. On the wedding day, things, however, take a different turn, as the bridegroom is found to be insane and Apu is persuaded by his friend to marry Aparna. The romantic scenes between the newly married couple, are sheer poetry on celluloid. Aparna, however, dies in child birth and Apu is disconsolate with grief. The scene in which he gets the news of his wife's demise is brilliantly etched out by the master director. Apu becomes a vagabond of sorts, but is finally reunited with his son Kajol. The scenes where the father meets his child for the first time are beautifully captured by the legendary director.
This is a great film by the maestro and is a viewer's delight!
This dvd/vcd is a must-have for all the lovers of world cinema!
