Around The World In Eighty Days  has been considered as one of the most famous stories of this genre in world literature. First written in 1874, the novel tells the story of Mr. Fogg who goes round  the world by land and sea in eighty days just to win a bet that 'it could be done'. In these days of space travel, this achievement would be considered outdated but the value and relevance of the story lie in combining adventure and popular science for the common reader. More importantly, this novel provides the principle on which all later science fiction stories have been based: a hypothesis, an examination of its consequences, made interesting by a story woven round it.
