The Art of Computer Programming : Fundamental Algorithms (Volume - 1) (English) 3rd Edition (Paperback) Price: Rs. 463

This multi-volume work is widely recognized as the definitive description of classical computer science. The first three volumes have for decades been an invaluable resource in programming theory and practice for students, researchers and practitioners alike.

Countless readers have spoken about the profound influence of Knuth’s work. Scientists have marveled at the beauty and elegance of his analysis, while ordinary programmers have successfully applied his “cookbook” solutions to their day-to-day problems. All have admired Knuth for the breadth, clarity, accuracy, and good hum-our of his books.

Beautiful books

They are beautiful, the off-white coloured dust jackets make a pleasing change to the other pure white books that I have on my desk, and the box sets the set apart from everything else.

The best book for Computer Science students.

This book was seen during my student days. It is an amazing collection of mathematical problems and algorithms. It was costing a fortune at that time.It is a must for all computer Science graduates. I would be very happy if could purchase all the three volumes.

Is there anything to say about this!!

This book is considered a masterpiece about computer programming, but definitely not for those who program casually. If programming is your religion, this book is from the mouth of God. Flipkart did an excellent job of sending this book in time (even to my remote state! Assam!). Flipkart is usually … (View complete review)

this is THE book for programmers

First, the price is very, very reasonable.
Second, if there are two things software is known for, those can be the facts that software is always delivered late and full of bugs. Knuth will not teach you best programming practices like design patterns ( don't except those form the books ) but he will teach you one thing : how to write software you're confident in and about. No matter how good is your software architecture if its performance is bad or the algorithms are wrongly implemented, yes it is will be delivered late and buggy - there is no harder bug to discover than that in the logic

Read this book if you want to call yourself a computer scientist.

This book, as well as the other books in this series, forces you to think about algorithms and programming like you have never thought before. It is rigorous and leaves no aspect of algorithm analysis untouched. That said, you cannot read it in one day, or one month or probably even in an year. Reading Knuth is probably a lifelong pursuit, but rest assured, it is worth it. Read it if you want to become a real computer scientist, as opposed to the hordes of software jockeys who learn java and struts and think they are God.

This is very very interesting book as it gives a very different perspective to look at algos .. if you are not comfortable with maths you mind is going to spin .. but hold on don't ignore it for that reason .. end of teh day you want to be a good programmer right ? so its worth putting the effort right now under knuth's proper guidance .. u will never regret in life for the effort you will p

Must Be In Any CS Engineers Bookshelf

The quality of this book is unparalleled so is the author's imagination power. Extreme amount of thought has been exercised everywhere, from the first page of the chapter till the problems. Not to mention the problems are divided into levels for readers to grasp them according to their understanding. The hypothetical computer the author imagines, 'MIX' too has emulators which are easily available on the net. The links are provided in the author's site. All in all it's a must buy if anyone wishes no know something no other CS book can teach. read the book to find out what it is !

Though most of the content is the same, the page numbers are different. All the errata corrections made by referencing the page numbers and the line number are based on the Addison Wesley edition. And it is mentioned in the Pearson edition- "see page iv" and there's nothing like page iv in it.
Its just a caution. This book is a must buy.

Beautiful books

They are beautiful, the off-white coloured dust jackets make a pleasing change to the other pure white books that I have on my desk, and the box sets the set apart from everything else.

Also, since purchasing this set, the following things have happened.

1) My IQ increased by 1 point as soon as I placed the box on my bookshelf
2) The Women in my IT department increased their rating of me by 1.5. Apparently I'm now an 8 (9 if I take my glasses off) my colleagues report that this is a 0.5 increase in rating over a non-boxed collection of these books.
