Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach

An excellent book, every bit worthy of being your first AI book.

Both the authors are renowned computer scientists and notable for their contributions in the field of artificial intelligence.

The book has been written in simple and easy to read style and covers detailed array of algorithms and techniques used in AI. It also touches the hardware part of AI systems (as in robotics), though only elementary. Probability is also covered in fairly detailed manner.

This book here however is the 2nd Edition, a newer 3rd Edition of this book has already been released, but yet not available in Low Price Edition (LPE) for Indian Subcontinent (at the time of posting this review). Though there is no major change in the new 3rd Edition, mostly re-structuring and re-arrangement of topics.

I have very few words to explain the awesomeness of this book. I bought it to learn about AI in gaming, but what I got to learn from it is a lot more... There are countless algorithms and practical application examples explained in the book. The authors are extremely experienced in the field and have delivered their ideas in the best and the most understandable language.

This book taught me to think different and to approach AI in the best possible manner. There are hardly any codes in the book so you should know at least one programming language to make good use of it... They recommend python, I used both Python and Java. I'd also recommend octave to make life a lot easier.

A newer 3rd Edition is available out there. Not an Indian low priced edition yet, but the Imported Edition (from US), so would cost dearly. Here:

This is not a major edition, but a revised one. So, there aren't major changes.

This is best book to begin studying AI. Authors have great understanding of subject and are masters in the field. Lot of implementation examples are on available on authors website as well. Best introductory text book to study AI and I highly recommend this book to anyone who is studying AI
