The Aryavarta Chronicles Book 2: Kaurava by Krishna Udayasankar, is the second book in the mytho-historical trilogy after Govinda, with focus on the Kauravas and the continued recreation of the Mahabharata.

    Summary Of The Book

The Aryavarta Chronicles Book 2: Kaurava begins with Emperor Yudhisthir and Empress Draupadi, ruling over the unified kingdom of Aryavarta. The kingdom was put together for them by Govinda, with blessings from the Firewrights.

In the second part of the chronicles, the Firewrights rise up from ashes of history, divided in their allegiance and purpose, and ready to wreak havoc on the kingdom. As sinister plots and treacherous allegiances form, the once noble land transforms into a nightmare. The Emperor gambles away the empire, while the empress is sent into exile as various factions within the realm congregate to conquer and destroy each other.

Govinda is left a broken man, with shattered dreams. He knows that the only way to protect the Empress and the land is by playing a life-threatening game. But will Govinda be able to reveal Vyasa’s terrifying secrets, which have been kept in absolute secrecy thus far? Secrets that can potentially destroy the Firewrights and the Firstborn?

The Aryavarta Chronicles Book 2: Kaurava was published in 2013.

    Kaurava

"Kaurava" is the bridge that connects the author's debut "Govinda" to the tentatively titled finale "Kurukshetra", that makes up "The Aryavarta Chronicles". This is a retelling of the Mahabharata with its focus shifted from the usual plotline, to a viewpoint based storytelling, in this case, Govinda (Krishna).

Book 2 picks up on where Book 1 left off. The interesting thing about this retelling is that whatever you have read about the Mahabharata is a mere context. The authoritative way in w...

Mahabharta as we should know it

Aryavarta Chronicles is one the best books I have read in recent times... Krishna Udayshankar takes us into realms of Mahabharta as never before.
The characters are well sketched and the plot is gripping. As it is written from historical perspective it seems utterly believable as the plot unfolds..
Kaurava is a fabulous continuation of Govinda ant sets the stage for Kurukshetra,
The anguish, the schemes and at the heart the lines drawn between right and the wrong are penned to a readers conten...

A fitting part 2 of the Aryavarta Chronicles..

When I read the first part I had relatively low expectations from the book. But after finishing it - I have to say I was really looking forward to the second installment of the series. What was most interesting is was the way the India's most popular story has been treated - some of the stuff that we really took for granted and never question have been looked at from a slightly different perspective.

More than anything the book takes us thru the twists and turns that happen in the build up ...

    Brilliant!

Perfectly written. The writer did her research perfectly. And this is one amazing sequel which does justice to the equally amazing first book in the series Govinda. The cover is even better.

And how the story progresses, over time, and the narration is the thing which keeps the reader. The book, is surely one of the best that you would find in this popular genre. It kept me up many nights, when I was reading it. The book offers an acceptable retelling of the great epic, taking into consider...

Kaurava, a nicely done 2nd installment

Nicely done - weaves both popular myth with fiction to give us a great story. Takes popular culture as we Indians know it and melds it with some interesting twists and turns to give us a fresh new take on the Mahabharata.

    Phenomenal.

This book has certainly piqued my curiosity to read the last book of the trilogy. The way Krishna Udayasankar has upped the level of thrill and suspense with every passing chapter just highlights how consummate the author is. Every chapter unravels some mystery but this very reason serves the purpose of escalating suspense, thrill, curiosity and astonishment so much so that one would find it extremely difficult to let go of the book. Sequencing of the chapters, clarity of writing and in depth...

    Great scheme

Good read...amazingly well researched insight into the great epic.I am still surprised on how much we still do not know and how much can someone build an amazing narration over it.

Flipkart as usual - great delivery timing and packaging along with a great offer....However, I miss the trademark flipkart bookmark, which did not come along with it :)

A sequel as good as the original

Govinda, the first book in the series was a fantastic read. The same goes for this one. The storyline is captivating and the characterisation makes us take a different look at the Mahabharata we have always known. Eagerly waiting for the next instalment, Kurukshetra.

    Awesome sequel to Govinda

Reading in continuation with Govinda, I simply could not put this book down. The character of Draupadi has been really bought forward in extremely positive way, and the way events have been sequenced, unfolded and the situations dealt by protagonists is very very convincing. Hats off to the author for taking up such a project like this and bring some real life sense to larger than life portrayal of characters of Mahabharat. Eagerly waiting for the last part.
