Asus Eee PC 1015CX-BLK024W Netbook (2nd Gen ADC/ 2GB/ 320GB/ ExpressGate Cloud)

Bought this item from a local store as Flipkart doesn't deliver it to my current location.
Very nice product, if you are a person who needs to travel often and your computations needs are few like presentations, spreadsheets, word processing, videos, music and light coding, this a product for you.

Linux Support: Works flawlessly with linux Mint 13 & ubuntu 12.04, cedarview display drivers in the multiverse repository is all you need (to change the display from 800x600 to 1024x600), but the support is limited to 2D graphics with linux. Mageia supports cedarview out of the box and is also another option for linux users. However since 3D acceleration on the driver is not present you will have to work with mate, KDE, xfce, lxde etc. Unity3D, Gnome 3 and cinnamon will not load.

Audio: There is a single speaker on the machine hence the low volume, however with earphones the sound is good, at least on linux. On windows avoid the drivers provided on the accompanying DVD and you should find it satisfactory.

Battery Backup: I get a decent 6 -7 Hrs of backup depending on the activity, wifi data transfer has the worst battery drain. Rough estimate after a month of use, 6:30 - 7:00 hrs of video playback with wifi on and connected on linux. On windows the backup is approximately 30 minutes more, without the use of super hybrid engine.

Operating temperature: linux: processor: 40-50 deg, hdd 35-40 deg plugged in & constant use for over 16 hrs
windows: processor :50-60 deg , hdd 35-40 deg plugged in & constant use for over 16 hrs. Laptop on the desk without any heat syncs or fans and ambient room temp : 25 deg

Note: you might like to change the apm settings of HDD to avoid frequent disk parking. QuietHDD works fine under windows, I doubt I need to tell linux users how to customize it.

I bought this little netbook for surfing and downloading & trust me just keep it on download mood & slide it in2the drawer it rocks since its a NETBOOK battery consumption is low.Now comes the TRICK part I was using this device 4 past 4-5 months & it lagged like anything I mean if you are using hexacore intel/AMD you wont like this thing then what I did was saw a video on youtube and CHANGED ITS DEFAULT SATA HARD DISK DRIVE TO A SAMSUNG PRO 840 SSD now this little machine has a whopping score of 6.1 on WINDOWS EXPERIENCE INDEX even when 1 GB ram is attached to the motherboard the performance is flawless I tried hooking up cheaper SSDs as well like kingston for 3000 & it still rocked trust me guys this little thing has potential I DID IT BECAUSE I LIKE ITS FORM FACTOR and spending a little to makes it competitive.KEEP ROCKING!!!!!

It gives 10 Hrs battery backup in complete usage cycles.Full charge and full discharge gives more life for battery.
It weights : 1.25Kg.
Its having 0.3 MP cam with 320*240 Resolution on capture.But seems to have good quality in video calling and E-cam.
An inbuilt mic is attached near to webcam.

Main Cons: I experienced a problem with its speaker quality,When company drivers are installed speaker gets worst
with disturbance.

heavy usage gives a backup for 6 hrs but a bit of tweaking like reducing brightness when indoors can significantly increase the back up to around 8-9 hrs.. more than enough for a day of heavy use.

its actually better to have 32 bit - my personal opinion
all u can get for it is windows 7 ultimate.. , if all you do is browsing and some small stuff express gate is cool as it has incredibly short start up time ( about 10-15 sec )
but though a new model intel refused to create drivers for windows 8 so windows 8 doesn't work on it properly ( works with poor visuals as graphic media accelerator doesnt have compatible driver)
u may hate windows 8 now but the problem would be that we cant upgrade to windows 9 or subsequent versions unless intel provides the driver

This is the 2nd time i am buying this same netbook from flipkart.The previous one had a 1GB Ram.
I ordered the Laptop on tuesday evening and got it on thursday.Flipkart delivery is superb.
The Laptop works well with Windows 7 Ultimate.No lag no performance issues.Tried playing 1080p Video.After installing the video driver it played smoothly with Windows Media Player.I would suggest to install all drivers even if you install Windows 7 which doesn't always need drivers to be installed.
Good for Browsing,Watching Movies,Reading PDF.If you have a low budget,Don't want a big screen,want it for travel and don't want it for playing Graphic intense games you definitely go for it.
