Asus X54C-SX365D Laptop (2nd Gen PDC/ 2GB/ 500GB/ DOS)

Many will doubt about the processor but is better than those old Core 2 Duo system. Windows Experience Index is:-

Battery Backup,
while playing games: 1 hour, 33 minutes (with 5% remaining);
in other cases: Around 2 hours 45 minutes.

Installation of drivers was so easy. Just insert your DVD & leave it for 15 minutes after pressing install. It will automatically install all the drivers. The same is not applicable for other brands if the same doesn’t come with so called free windows 7.

I just added another 2GB RAM. There’s just one slot, if you want to add one more RAM chip, go for 4GB chip; I got this 2GB DDR3 RAM for free else I would have purchased 4GB chip, just 500 rupees difference between 2GB & 4GB RAM

The best part is the sandy Bridge Graphics; you can play all the games launched till 2011. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010 can be played at 1366x768 resolution with all high settings. Frame rate was around 18-22; my friend has Intel Core i3 1st gen. with Nvidia 520M; he is able to derive a frame rate of 24-25 for the same settings & resolution.

Well, 25fps is considered as acceptable frame rate but truly speaking, there’s no practical difference between 24fps & 20fps.

Even after playing games for 2 hours, the laptop remains extremely cool. With 1st gen. CPU, you cannot play games with laptop on your lap but with 2nd gen., it’s so comfortable. Again, Asus Ice Cool technology is also great.

You can customize the initial logo with software that comes on DVD. Face logon features is also present.

Don’t think that presence of Altec Lansing means superb speaker but at this price point, it’s great. Try SRS Audio Sandbox to improve sound quality & volume.

The bad point, I had not purchased the same from flipkart as flipkart doesn't deliver to my state due to some taxation problem.

Use it for trading, multi-tasking, editing photographs in photoshop, corel & lightroom, general browsing, researching trading systems and back-testing some very large data. Have done all of these together and the machine does not break a sweat. Do game sometimes, like NFS etc, and this machine can handle many pretty decent games but not for a gaming addict playing very high fps games, other than that it pretty much does everything under the sun.

+Asus software allows control of colors, red, green & blue individually. Hence enhancing the screen quality further for photographers, web-designers and editors
+Good shortcut keys on keyboard for pretty much everything from wifi, external display switching to sound & display brightness
+Large keys on the keyboard, very easy to type

Cons:
-Only 2 USB posts 3 would have been excellent
-Webcam - Very dull, have to but an external one for quality chats

Flipkart as usual did a fine job, delivered the piece in 2 days flat from Mumbai, I was expecting it in about 10 days and surprise! Thanks.

Overall a very good purchase.

This is a very good VFM laptop. Every feature mentioned is right except that of the RAM part.

Its true that there is only 1 RAM slot but that RAM slot is free.. The 2 GB RAM that comes with the laptop is directly inbuilt into mother board. Bottomline, the total RAM of this laptop is upgradeable upto 6 GB.

However, there is one manufacturing issue that this model has. The laptop restarts automatically every time you shut down while connecting to AC. This can (apparently) be solved by upgrading the BIOS to version 207 (available in ASUS website).
