Autobiography of A Yogi 1st Edition tells the life story of Paramahansa Yogananda. One of the best spiritual books ever written, this introduces western readers to India's ancient science of Yoga. This book is a must read for anyone interested in spirituality, God-realization, and the laws behind miracles.

    Summary Of The Book

Autobiography of A Yogi 1st Edition, first published in 1946, introduces readers to the extraordinary life of Paramahansa Yogananda. The book covers Yogananda’s remarkable childhood, and describes his search for his guru, Yukteswar Giri. Yogananda then spent ten years in training to become a yoga master. He taught many others The Science of Kriya Yoga, a technique that was initiated by Yukteswar. The Yogi also established a school by the name of Yogoda Satsanga Brahmacharya Vidyalaya.

Autobiography of A Yogi 1st Edition covers thirty years of experience of the author while in the United States of America. He gave lectures to thousands of enthusiastic Americans about spirituality, and established the Self-Realization Fellowship. In fact, he was the first Yoga master whose mission was to live and teach in the West. This book also speaks of the Yogi’s interactions with Luther Burbank, Therese Neumann, Ananda Moyi Ma, Mahatma Gandhi, Ramana Maharshi, Rabindranath Tagore, Sir C. V. Raman, and Giri Bala. It also describes the lives and missions of swamis like Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, and Swami Sri Yukteswar.

Autobiography of A Yogi 1st Edition is one of the few books that has been written about Yogis by a Yogi. Its uniqueness also lies in the fact that for the first time a Hindu Yogi had penned down an autobiography for a Western audience. The book is insightful, and states that there are laws that govern the miracles performed by saints. These fascinating facts are explained with scientific clarity. Yogananda shows methods that are to be followed in order to attain God-realization. The book is filled with gentle humour, common sense, yoga techniques, interesting stories, and spiritual experiences.

Autobiography Of A Yogi 1st Edition is said to have inspired the likes of Steve Jobs, George Harrison, and Elvis Presley. It has sold over four million copies in twenty-nine languages. In 1999, a Harper Collins panel of distinguished theologians and luminaries selected Autobiography of A Yogi as one of the 100 Best Spiritual Books of the 20th Century.

    Author Info
    • Paramhansa Yogananda (often spelled \'Paramahansa\' Yogananda) was born on January 5, 1893 in Gorakhpur, India. He was the first yoga master of India to permanently live and teach in the West. Yogananda arrived in America in 1920, and traveled throughout the United States on what he called his \'spiritual campaigns\'. His enthusiastic audiences filled the largest halls in America. Hundreds of thousands came to see the yogi from India. At some packed venues thousands were turned away nightly. A national sensation, Yogananda\'s lectures and books were extensively written about by the major media of the era, including Time Magazine, Newsweek, and Life. He was even invited to the White House by President Calvin Coolidge. Yogananda continued to lecture and write up to his passing in 1952.

\n\nYogananda\'s initial impact was truly impressive. But his lasting impact has been even greater. Yogananda\'s Autobiography of a Yogi, first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution throughout the world. His message was nonsectarian and universal. Yogananda\'s Guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar, sent him to the West with the admonition, \"The West is high in material attainments, but lacking in spiritual understanding. It is God\'s will that you play a role in teaching mankind the value of balancing the material with an inner, spiritual life.\"

    Belongs to every bookshelf

This is not just a book, this is a journey into oneself. It makes you ask the questions. It makes you find the answers. Its makes you realize your self, without ever telling you to do so. Imagine Buddha, Krishna and Allah talking to you, telling you their life's experiences and their deduction of the experiences: this is what you get on reading this book.
This book was recommended to me by a brother of mine. And the book has continued to optimize my belief system ever since. Written by the 20...

    Inspiring beyond limit

Quality of the book and print is decent.

But, the insight you get about spirituality in this book is beyond compare. People may dismiss the miracles mentioned in this book, but what does our society which has not gone physically beyond our solar system or understood the sub-atomic particles, know about our cosmos, its truth & powers. We are too small and inexperienced to comment about such phenomena.

Motive of the Author is not to get personal gain or fame, but to introduce the world in knowi...

    A Masterpiece!

One of the most profound books written in the 20th century. As stated in the Preface "The value of Yogananda’s Autobiography is greatly enhanced by the fact that it is one of the few books in English about the wise men of India which has been written, not by a journalist or foreigner, but by one of their own race and training—in short, a book about yogis by a yogi."

All sincere readers will unequivocally say that this book has real spiritual power. It is no wonder that this is believed to be...

Buy the one from different publisher

This book is very interesting and inspiring. Since the quality of the pages of this edition is poor so I would recommend buying this same book published by a different publisher (Yogoda Satsang Society Of India).

Print quality of book is not good

This book is a good book to read for a person having interest in knowing the true power of our mind and body.

But this book's print is bad and i would not suggest any one to buy it. Print on some pages is visible clearly behind the page. Try out some other publisher of this book. I hop
