That said, it is a terrific ride through a well-done reality. No rediculous super-heroes with god-like powers. Only real people in a terrible struggle. Americans, but could be anyone. West has a very subtle way of provoking thought in many directions.
It starts out as a Steinbeckish tour through the life of an immigrant, then launches into a new and dark realm. Even the writing style changes. I've never seen a book like this.
