The author brings a unique blend of knowledge and experience to the task of providing a practical book on avk~nrcs. John holds a degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He started his career at a University Research Center but succumbed to the lure of aviation and opened a general aviation avionics business providing sales, service and installations. After selling his avionics business he joined Narco Avionics and for ten years was active in- the design of many avionics products.

John is an avid and experienced pilot with 3500 hours and holds a commercial pilots license, single and multi-engine land with instrument, flight instructor and instrument instructor ratings. As well as extensive personal and business flying experience he has spent many leisure hours flight instructing. He is now a project manager in the defense electronics industry providing products for military aircraft.
