Interesting attempt

The book is well written and compares favorably against most recent English books written by Indians. Don't expect a Agatha Christie or Conan Doyle here. But a decent whodunit type of book with a fresh new detective 'Hamid Pasha'. Puzzle is well woven. Definitely recommend readers to buy and read it to encourage Indian writers in English and to encourage publishers to supports works other than campus romances.

Interesting story!

Fairly good plot, decently paced, good writing style and well etched characters make this book a fairly good read. The plot is well executed though the overall motive behind the crime might be a disappointment. The family feud with spicy drama keeps the story interesting; so does the small puzzle pieces that keep cropping up now and then. Overall a good read with a story line better than the debut novel.

A must read mystery

Banquet on the Dead is a well-crafted mystery and Sharath has succeeded in keeping the suspense till the very end. I was able to identify the killer in his first novel, but in the second one (Banquet on the dead), I couldn't though I tried hard to keep guessing the killer. His writing style is good and is much better than many of the best seller writers. I hope to read more of his works in the coming years. I recommend Banquet on the Dead - a must read mystery, if you like mysteries.

Brilliant stuff!

like the last book by Sharath this book is very engaging !! while reading it i thought at least this time i will suspect the culprit.. but all efforts in vain as the brand new king of murder mysteries defeated me again.. the end is absolutely unexpected.. the plot takes some time to build up ..u have to be patient initially.. and the result is just marvellous and awe inspiring.. great book and a must read ... lastly fantastic service flipkart!!

A Disappointing Mystery!

I picked up this book with a lot of expectations but it didn't manage to impress me.

The writing was good, characters were fine (though clearly muddled about their loyalties. Most of them were blabbermouths, incriminating each other unnecessarily.) The plot left a lot to be desired and mysteries are all about cleverly woven plots. It seemed like a bad imitation of an Agatha Christie novel. The ending was unsatisfactory. It was a motiveless murder, I felt. Hamid Pasha's character only had He...

Banquet on the Dead - Superb "Put me to sleep" kinda book!

This is a story about a mother who is killed by her son and daughter-in-law for the sake of her wealth. The on the face of it, it appear to be a suicide but the inspector and his consultant are not convinced.

The book has 275 pages of which, the first 250 are spent in thinking about the crime and wondering who might have done it. Then all of a sudden in the last 25 pages the crime is solved.

On a good day I felt sleepy after reading just 2 pages - highly recommended as a "put me to sleep" b...

Murder in the family

A worthwhile read. Author is talented, story is entertaining, characters are interesting but editing and publishing house have made very unforgivable mistakes. Does not have enough cohesion in the story line, but a good murder mystery nonetheless.

A good read

Suddenly when 'Talaash' had made murder mysteries oh-so-cool again, Sharath's book is definitely one of the better books that has hit the market.

An engaging murder mystery that could have become a true clutter breaker had the characterization been stronger and if few loose ends were tied up.

Nevertheless, Sharath can definitely rest a proud man for bringing about a good page-turner, in the face of the increasing trash that is coming our way in the guise of Indian fiction.

Good job, Sharath!

A must read novel for mystery lovers

Sharath's writing is very stylish writing. A must read novel for mystery lovers. The plot is elegant. The story keeps the reader to make guesses about the murderer. The end is brilliant. Detective Pasha is classy. Anything more will be a spoiler. Thumbs up!
