About the Book:
Basic Separation Techniques in Biochemistry provides information on the basic separation techniques most commonly employed in Biochemical research.The basic principles and applications of the routine methods for the fractionation of subcellular macromolecules have been discussed in simple and comprehensive manner.

The methodology of each technique is presented in a precise and concise way for meaningful understanding to a beginner student. The book is in eight chapters, each with statement of objectives. The book will prove of value to undergraduate students of biochemistry, chemistry and biology as supplementary reading text to more advanced texts in Laboratory Techniques.


About the Author:
Born in Ilesha, Osun State, Nigeria, Rufus Okotore was educated at Government College, Ibadan, Nigeria and the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria where he obtained the B.Sc.(Hons) Biochemistry degree in 1965 and the M.Sc. (Biochemistry) and Ph.D. (Biochemistry) in 1968 and 1971 respectively from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Started his academic career as Lecturer II (Biochemistry) in the Department of Biological Science, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria, in 1972. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, College of Medicine in 1978, and then promoted to Associate Professor, in 1982. He was appointed to the Chair of Biochemistry in the same College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria in 1985.

He has won many Fellowships and Grants, Awards including Western Nigerian Government Scholarship (1961-65); Commonwealth Scholarship, Canadian Award (1966-1968); Dalhousie Graduate Fellowship Award (1969-71); German Scientific Research Foundation Award and Max-Plancks Institute Society Award (1982-83).

He was a visiting Scientist to the University of California, Davis, California, U.S.A. (Institute of Marine Resources); Medical University of Cologne (Department of Immunobiology), Cologne, Germany; Max-Planck?s Institute of Immunobiology, Freiburg, Germany. He is a member of many Learned Scientific Societies including Biochemical Society of Nigeria; Biochemical Society of Great Britain; Science Association of Nigeria and New York Academy of Sciences.

He has taught Biochemistry and examined the subject for a period of 25 years at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in several Universities in Nigeria. He has published over 50 scientific papers on the major research interests; viz. Protein Chemistry, Enzymology, Proteoglyconjugates and Lectinology, in reputable international journals. He has attended many International Scientific Workshops which include Biochemical Separation Methods (Summer School 1979-80) organised by Pharmacia Fine Chemicals Company, Sweden; UNESCO/ICRO Regional Training Course on Basic Research Techniques. He is married with children.
