Book Summary of Batman: Arkham Asylum

The most successful graphic novel of all time returns in a deluxe 15th Anniversary Edition softcover, including th original groundbreaking story, the full comics script with annotations by author Grant Morrison, the original page layouts, and an afterword by editor Karen Berger.

Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earth is a hard-hitting psychological horror story featuring Batman and virtually all the inmates of Arkham Asylum, the house for the criminally insane. Led by the Joker, the inmates – Two-Face, the Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, Clayface, Scarecrow, and more – take over the asylum and seize control of the staff. They're willing to release the hostages, but only if their one demand is met: Batman must be turned over to them, and become one of their own.

Amazing artwork

The best thing about this graphic novel is its artwork. This is Dave Mckean at his best when he presents insanity on art. The storyline narration is not quite unique as it's been done before by Morroson's predecessor when they wrote about Batman from an observer's point of view. Yet Morrison takes the reader on a psychedelic roller-coaster ride on the darker side of the human mind.

The story adds another dimension to Joker's personality and gives a peep into his unique mind. Morrison however fails to deliver that point home like it was done so clearly in "Dead to Rights". But still, the ending panel summarizes the entire book.

Added bonus in this book is the original script and panel arrangement which Morrison wrote for DC along with little anecdotes. That's probably a bonus given how readers rarely know how the end product comes to be when it comes to graphic novels.

Striking!

Erie setting beautifully depicted by Dave is the key element is the success of this book....the script which seeks to explore the madness in Joker and his manipulative prowess is thoroughly supported by the imagery.
My suggestion to the Batman fan would be to play Batman Arkham Asylum Game and take the experience to the next level by coupling it with this Masterpiece.
Awesome!!! \m/
