Worth every penny, and actually much more - must read for any "Student Entrepreneur" and actually everyone else :)

This is my first book by Harsh, and I must say that he nailed it. I got it on my birthday, and I couldn't put the book until I had finished it which was by 7 am in the morning or so.

The book is more than just an accurate description of the kind of things that happen in an Entrepreneur's life when he is in college, yet to know how professional World work, and thus unknowingly is caught in the web of personal vs. professional connections. Despite the seriousness, and loads of messages the book is spicy enough to give you goosebumps.

If you have ever aspired to be an Entrepreneur or you are one, I am sure you would love it. Besides the learning, you would be able to relate seamlessly at so many points. While at some points you would want to be in author's place for all the fame and respect, and at others you would simply want to sympathize with him.

To summarize - the book is a must read, whether or not you an entrepreneur. The book isn't a work of fiction, which makes it even more interesting.

A definite page-turner

"Because shit happened" - As I was wandering around the Mumbai airport earlier this month, waiting impatiently for my delayed flight, I somehow managed to bump into this title. Why I picked it up - maybe it was the ever- budding entrepreneur in me, or just the avid book shop surfer, or was just another pseudo-satisfied and over worked consulting professional looking for a little bit of humour. But whichever alter-ego it might have been, I just knew that I had to read through it.

Right from the first page, the writer managed to take me through a very different kind of journey - the one that many of us probably long to go on. In a flash I was teleported back in time, as I made my way through a long forgotten, yet familiar education system and the ever welcoming streets of Delhi. And so was I caught up that I was almost cursing the boarding announcement as I was required to put the book away for a while.

Another 15 minutes and a bottle of water later I was uncomfortably stuffed in the cattle class of the plane, trying to find some comfort in the book. I wasn't let down even a bit as I was introduced to this emotionally driven, passionate individual chasing his dream. A dream shared by many of our fellow youth, but seldom pursued religiously. In a time when everyone was busy sacrificing her/his entrepreneurial dreams, there was this guy who was trying to gather utmost courage and support to create something he really believed in. In a time when 95% of new ventures are shelved in less than years’ time, he was toiling around his set of morals, priorities, relationships and his need of recognition, just to make his dream a reality. And boy, did he succeed in that and how.

The author has managed to brew together a distinct flavour - comprising of dreams, passion, trade-offs, failures, relationships, breakups & eventually come-backs. And after 3 very short hours of cruising, there I was - full of awe, appreciation and certainly a little apprehension. I ended the book with many questions - regarding the choices made by the characters, and quite a few answers - to those "what if" questions, that have kept me from pursuing many of my passions.

The book is quite a page turner and I would recommend it to anyone who has ever dared to dream and has shown courage to never let go of it. It is one of the best works I have read in a while and I would like to wish Harsh Snehanshu, the very best, for his next many books to come.

It's different

'What not to do in a start up...'
Many books have been written which tell the success stories of their writers but this one is a story of failure. With this book, Harsh Snehanshu comes out of the league of writers selling their books on the road side.
I'll justify, why I rated this book 4 on 5:
Star 1: For the unique theme and the unique style of writing. It's humerous and serious at the same time.
Star 2: For the continuity maintained throughout. Every step, which a start up takes, is explained. No skipping, no exaggeration.
Star 3: For the way things like greed and lust for power are described.
Star 4: For inspiring me.

Why 4/5 and not 5/5?
Well, many won't agree to this point because it all depends on one's taste and the state of mind while one reads something.
Since Harsh knows that people liked his style of writing in Kanav-Tanya trilogy, he has forced in some elements of a typical fictitious love story into it. The things, in this case, might be true but he could have avoided the overuse of sex and drama (including shoulder massage) in a book like this.

Worth reading.
Waiting for 'Route to Roots'.

Insightful. Intense. Inspiring.

I have been silently following Harsh Snehanshu for the past few years. I liked his first three books for his exquisite sense of humour. This book completely took me by surprise. It was a serious one, and I was a bit apprehensive to witness how Harsh tackles it. I thought a writer with a funny bone would make it too bland and boring. But I was so damn wrong. I was hooked from the first page to the last, until I could finish the entire book in one sitting - 6 hours at a stretch.

My mother got angry with me because I skipped my classes the next day because of this book. It's a very honest account, almost read like a real life story, and I'm surprised that if the story is true, then I must salute Harsh for mentioning disgraceful aspects about his life, things that could have scared most of the other writers on the block. The story was packed with events and characters, who seemed real in every sense.

Harsh shows great promise and I look forward to read his next book.

Bold , near-brilliant and a brave attempt to portray the 'other' side of an entrepreneur's life

We all have seen failures. We live/lived with them. Very few of us manage to cope with the loss of dreams, the breach of trust, the tarnishing of hopes, and the end of a friendship. Harsh Snehanshu manages to tell his story of failure when the world seems to crave that every plot about start-up ventures must reach a happy ending. And that, my dear readers, is a brave thing to do.

I understand my opening thoughts seem a little disconcerted but I assume that that's the impact the book had on me. And I was right on not reviewing the book after flipping the back cover for the last time right away but to choose to give some thoughts about the story and allow it to sink in - therefore the impact was welcome. The book sets the mood right from the beginning, and there is really not much of a happy-go-lucky theme that arrives page-after-page. There is a lot of negativity, but let me tell you, it was skillfully handled to ensure you don't get afraid to take a plunge, but to rectify your errors by taking a lesson or two from the incidents. Claimed to be a true story, as a reader/reviewer I reserve no right to judge the people involved in the book whom interestingly I happen to know in real life, but honestly, I understand that the author has tried to ensure he doesn't end up taking the 'hate' route and 'get back' at them.

Let's talk about some key aspects of the book. The plot moves in a near-perfect sinusoidal fashion, there are well blend ups and downs. The narration is still a bit childish, which is probably because the author is shifting his gears from chick-lit to serious drama. He is honest on that part and that is darn good for his writing. The protagonists are fine but the interest to develop them was missing somewhere. We see the perks and perils of an entrepreneur's life and the author earns full marks for this. The lust element was very significant and played a pivotal role in the decisions that the protagonists made. The premise that was set-up was a bit dark but strong. More brownie points!

The climax was very convincing. The fall was thrilling and heart-breaking; and the momentary uncertainty of the protagonist with his future was beautifully portrayed. In the end, the message was delivered well and the book did justice to what it promised in its blurb.

Final verdict: When there's a poorly written Anu Aunty novel circulating in the country that is motivating the wannabes, the deftly written Because SHIT Happened actually manages to inspire the readers that the amateur entrepreneurs must take note of: What NOT to do in a start-up.
