Chowdhuribari is one such heritage property which is rented out for film shoots to facilitate its maintenance. A heroine faints during a shooting, allegedly sighting a ghost in a mirror. A filmmaker on a reconnaissance trip to the building gets to hear of a spooky story revolving around the house. But is it just a tall tale or is there a twist in the 'tail'?

One of the best movies in modern cinema highlighting the issues faced by middle class Bengali and society as a whole. The story has been beautifully depicted with an unnatural plot...unparalleled in modern times. A must watch..
I hate to state that I was better off seeing the movie through other non paying media (~ pirated) rather than paying for the Legal DVD. The movie is widescreen format but encoded in the DVD as letter boxed 4:3 format. Thus resolution is not great(comparing with most Hindi or all English movie). Subtitles are embedded on the picture itself( for DVDs usually this is on a separate optional track). Movie is fine. No complain there. But if you are paying 300Rs for a DVD which is meant for picture quality and collection then this is not the one. For the movie a cheap VCD, online or other sources would be good enough. Better see it in a Movie Theater.
After a long time I saw a hilarious take on the idiosyncrasies, peculiarities and penchants of Bengal from my great grandfather, grandfather, father, my own and my sons perspective.
The Bengali's stereotypical take on Ghoti and Bangal, the Bihari Rickshawpuller, the Maru Bij-niss-man and the "common man".
I see traces of "Pirates of Caribbean" set in a brand new plot type with an item doing the take off on Bollywood. Just fantastic!
After a long time I have seen a Bengali movie which is full of fun yet based on contemporary problems of our society. What is good about this movie is that it could have easily become like any other movie which goes by the name of comedy. The director has kept excellent control over the script and on the actors. The technical excellence apart, the actors have done wonders with special mention for MIR.
This is a "mast" bengali movie that i really enjoyed after a long time. The story is refreshing and the screenplay is excellent. There is an element of suspense, which is well carried forward through the most part of the movie. The humor and comedy elements are sometime subtle....combining the nuances of West & East Bengal.
Overall...a family entertainer!
