Biodiversity Conservation

The subject of Biodiversity Conservation has gained global attention since 1992, India as a country of mega diversity has joined "UN Convention on Biological Diveristy" and enacted "Biological Diveristy Act" 2002 and Rules 2004. Significant progress has been made along last 15 years, a detail account of which has been presented in present volume. It includes information on Current Status, Uses, Institutional Support, Traditional Knowledge, Databas on one side and dealth with the issues of Access, Transfer and Benefit sharing mechanism as also question of Capacity building on the other side. This is perhaps one of the most comprehensive account on Indian Biodiveristy as on date.

Born on February 15, 1938, Dr. Asish Ghosh had his education at the University of Calcutta and University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA. A fulbright scholar and recipient of several international visitorships, Dr. Ghosh has 45 years of professional experience in India and abroad. He has written extensively on the subject of Natural Resource Management and on all dimensions of Environment and Development. He has published more than 325 papers including 25 monographs and books.
