World War II was a dark time for all the people living across Earth. Soldiers went into the war and never returned, new technologies were seen, and warfare became much more advanced than what was seen in the previous war. However, there was one thing that changed the way wars were fought and it was airplanes. Birds Of Steel with its war-based missions puts you in the shoes of the brave pilots who fought the war, allowing you to experience the fear and thrill of being a fighter pilot.
From biplane fighters to jet bombers, you can find all the airplanes that were seen during World War II. The game is targeted towards hard-core gamers who like games based on the World War II theme. The flight simulator video game has innovative features that will keep you up all night as you race through the missions. Birds Of Steel game DVD is available for the PS3 gaming console and carries a Teen rating from ESRB.
Synopsis and Features
During World War II, every fighter pilot woke up to a new adventure every day. Every mission and the skies they flew in were marked with danger as no one was sure where the next attack would come from. Exploring this theme, Birds Of Steel as a game builds an intense environment that allows you to feel what the fighters during the war felt – the hope of achieving victory for their nation.
Developed by Gaijin Entertainment and published by Konami, Birds Of Steel features tension-filled missions that will keep you at the edge of your seat every time you play the game. The single-player mode will allow you to pilot over 100 airplanes. This is a very interesting feature as you can experience how the planes feel like while piloting them. With each plane modelled in a different way, with different controls and flight settings, no two planes will feel the same while flying them.
Planes are the highlight in Birds of Steel as the ones featured in the game include the CR.42 Falco, A-20 Havoc Boston Mk III, A6M2-N Zero, Beaufighter Mk Vic, Arado Ar 234 Blitz (Lightning) and many others. Cockpits in the planes are precisely designed and animations throughout the game are smooth flowing. While playing the game you will get so involved in the missions that you will feel a surge of adrenaline every time the jet plunges down and rises back up again.
The game features various environments from the lush and richly detailed forests to the beautifully designed towns and cities. There are a variety of aids that you can use to make your flights easier. Opt for anything from unlimited fuel to ammunitions and tear through the sky to strike fear into your enemy’s hearts. If you are passionate about flying and want to know how piloting a real aircraft feels like, you can select the Realistic setting in the game. This allows you to take complete control of an aircraft without any aid or support. Manoeuvring a plane is tough in this setting, but it is rewarding too. If you feel like the Realistic setting is not real enough, you can opt for the Simulator setting.
In Simulator, even one single mistake can land you in heaps of trouble. If you don’t notice the air pressure gauge on your plane you will dive down like a roller-coaster that has lost its brakes; if you use the rudder while executing a tight turn you will lose complete control of the aircraft and so on. With 20 historical missions and hundreds of fictitious missions, Birds of Steel offers plenty of game time. The missions are spread across 6 different locations on the globe that include the famous Pearl Harbor and Wake Island.
If you like to team up with your friends you can do it in Birds of Steel as it offers cooperative multiplayer that supports up to 4 players at one time. If you like to improve your skills and challenge players across the world you can do it by playing the game online. Several online modes are available including the 8 vs 8 multiplayer option. The updates, wallpapers and other content for the game can be downloaded directly from the PlayStation Store.
The heading really says it all.
This game is perhaps the only game made for consoles that targets the aviation fans who can tell their Fw-190s from their Bf-109s, their Spitfires from their Zeros and the Mustangs from their Typhoons.
Well the upside is that the environments are fantastically detailed and beautiful, the aircraft obviously are extremely detailed with accurate control surfaces and damage. The aerodynamics in the "simulation" [hard] mode is simply phenomenal for its accuracy and difficulty. The anti-aircraft gunfire, flak and other effects all transport you to the early 40s and put in you the middle of massive air battles with realistic opponents who use actual air combat maneuvering to get you in their sights.
Coming to the downside, the game is rather repetitive at times, a lot of "go there, do this and go there" kind of missions that keep cropping up but if you liked other historical flight sims like Mig Alley or IL-2 you should have no worries. The campaign mode is also not as involved as you would hope it to be, especially considering how exciting the time period was. The action can feel a bit too arcade at times and on the "arcade" mode the game becomes ridiculously easy to play and there is little challenge involved in either navigation or air combat. Also, the "simulation" mode requires a joystick to have any real control because it's literally impossible to control the aircraft within its operating parameters with the clumsy standard PS3 controller.
The world builder and the carrier landings on "simulation" mode offer the greatest potential for Player-vs-Player combat and the simple test of skill.
All in all, a game that would delight fight simulation enthusiasts and disappoint the more arcade HAWX and Ace Combat crowd.
It is a good flight combat game. Although initially i found it little difficult to handle the plane but subsequently the piloting of the plane came good. atmosphere in the game corresponds to the world war. mass level destruction. tutorial given at the beginning helps a lot. Combat is also lively. player can fire bombs and cause mass level destruction.good aerial combat game. Last not the least, flipkart rocks.
