Worst phone evar

Been using it for a couple of weeks. Horrible battery, awful OS and dammit if the pricing is the worst ever. Honest to god, I don't know what the folks up there at BB offices are thinking. They're going to get bankrupt anytime now, because of such awful phones.

Stay away from such crap.

Pros: Design, Keyboard and LED; Cons: Battery, Hardware issues, Camera, apps. Verdict: Do not buy.

I bought this phone after I returned a faulty Curve 9360. I had bought the Curve 9360 because I wanted a BlackBerry with OS7 and that was the cheapest. The Curve was a good phone, the keypad slightly worse than the Bold and the battery life MUCH worse (and the Bold's battery life is horrible anyway). The Curve also kept hanging. So I bought the Bold as it was the BEST BlackBerry, and I thought that it would not hang, being the flagship BB.

Anyway, getting to the Bold 9900..

Hardware: I LOVE the hardware design. It feels solid, looks good and wears well. The keyboard is amazing. But once you get to the rest of the hardware - the other keys (the 5 top keys) are bad, the volume control buttons are hard. It has only a 5 MP fixed focus camera which is unacceptable. The touchscreen is terrible, and the proximity sensor only half-works, leading to many unwanted button presses during a call (by your face on the screen). I didn't get a chance to test NFC. Bluetooth support isn't too good and fails with a number of phones. WiFi hotspot is a useful feature.

Software: OS7 looks good and is mostly snappy, but once the phone starts to hang (after a few hours since the last battery pull), everything gets stuck and it randomly hangs at regular intervals, leaving the phone useless for up to 30 seconds. It also takes up to 7 minutes to boot from a battery pull. OS7 takes time to get used to, but its usable. It isn't too user friendly, but its very usable. Autocomplete is extremely useful (especially how it automatically puts dots if you press space in a url field, or @ signs and dots in an email field at the correct places).

Native Apps: Email was good, but not as great as expected and does not integrate fully with Gmail -- the Gmail app on the iPhone, or even the native iPhone app works better. (So BBs are not actually better than the iPhone at email). Music player is basic but functional. Calendar is very good. Camera app not so great. Browser quite usable but hangs easily. SMS and Messaging apps are awesome, especially the integration with third-party apps (WhatsApp, FB Messenger, and almost any other IM/messaging app for BB), and BBM. Video codec support is horrible and the video player is lacking. Contacts app is solid but the fields are limited and not re-nameable. BB Maps doesn't work in India, but the Google Maps app is usable but not great. The Alarm tone is so annoying, but works well to wake you up.

LED: Amazing feature to have. I miss it now that I don't use a BlackBerry anymore. It is VERY usable and third-party apps can customise it (you can set different colours, intervals, etc for different types of messages or apps).

BB Protect: Very good feature to have; works as advertised.

Issues: WhatsApp, an invaluable app, can be very laggy on it (even when the phone is otherwise zippy). The back panel gets scratched easily. After 6 months, some keys of the keyboard needed to be pressed harder to get registered. VERY slow.

Battery life: Forget using this phone for more than 5 hours heavily. With Push Email, WhatsApp, FB Messenger, BBM, texts; using it moderately, it lasts me about 5 hours. Put 3G on, and it lasted me 3. Its absolutely terrible. Though I can commend RIM for one thing. When the battery goes very low, the phone stays on with all the radios off. This gives you the opportunity to quickly make an emergency telephone call. If you need to send an urgent text or call, you can dial 911 or 112 and quickly end the call, and it gives you a brief period of time to send your message or make another call before the radios go off again.

Third party apps: Almost no good apps available. Facebook and Twitter apps are mediocre. All other apps by smaller developers are worse.

Pros:
-Keyboard
-LED
-BBM
-Integration of "Messages" app with any third party app
-Design

Cons:
-Battery life is pathetic
-Keyboard issues after 6 months
-Back panel scratches
-Bad camera, touchscreen
-Slow and laggy OS, hangs often for no reason (bad memory management)
-Basic music and video apps

Importantly,
-Email on BB isn't any better than on an iPhone or Android phone
-BlackBerrys do not last the whole day anymore. Not even close to it. Thus I see plenty of people carrying a Bold, and a backup Curve. (Or both a Bold and an iPhone).

Verdict: Do not buy. Spend your money on an iPhone 4 or 4S. (iPhone 5 is 10k more expensive than the Bold 9900, but it is good too).

There goes my 2 cents!

BB 9900 has extremely good features, but not very practically failsafe & ease of use. I had the following cons, since I feel slightly robbed out. Not great maps; Had serious issues with the phone hanging every now & then, although brand new. Not great service centres here in India, which is something BBerry must truly get into rather than doing great OB van ads! Spend wisely & learn if you really need features. I couldn't take pictures, scan a app or find my location on GMaps without crashing & hanging periodically. Not that it could be a defect, but Indian conditions for the device is as similar to AMD processor, and one good reasons why this Canadian company must look into. Pros: Good speaker, built, QWERTY etc, but pricing is seriously heavy on purse, which is one reason I am bluntly disappointed.

Strictly avoid

Being a big blackberry fan i brought this phone when it was newly launched, this phone was and is the flagship blackberry device. My experience with the phone has been terrible.

Cons:
Terrible battery-life 5-6 hrs
Software Lags (lesser than older model though) - Not expected from a 33k phone!
Overpriced

Pros:
Great touchscreen -Very responsive
Good keyboard - Best in class

This phone has a inherently flawed hardware/software which will brick your phone if you ever happen to forget to charge it, it will give you the dreaded red blinking light and then die a slow death. This means you need to take it to a service center. (My third time in 6 mths). Blackberry really needs to get its act together.

Final thought: While the phone works well when it does, once you hit low battery issues, you will be a frequent visitor to BB Service center's. Link : Google dead blackberry 9900 , its a well known issue now. . .

Worstest Phone and BB Futureless

I have seen a lot of phones. I think BB guys didnt come out of last gen to price this phone a 30K plus. Nokia Ahsa for mere 6000 Rs much better phone than this phone. A total crap phone. What those BB guys were thinking?
A 30K phone at this stage should have minimum Dual core processor and 1 GB RAM and 2000 ma battery. People please open your eyes and see what value you get in return for your 30K before blindly buying. Not hurting anyone'sentiments.

Blackberry Bold 9900

If there is anyone who doesnt vouch for this product , he probably doesnt know what a smartphone is all about . I am a user who would endorse this phone , aftr using the cream in the market comaparing it with IPHONE 5 down wards . The battery def needs a check for which I have ordered myself a 3000 mah SEIDIO from he net . I have no regrets now . Blackberry def is coming of age and the company is trying to keep themselves alive . They will be back with a bang and I am sure about it .
One cannot compare the quality that RIM standsby once they make a phone > I have heard people complaining a lot about this phone but i seriously feel u need to take care of a product for it to last on u. MAybe I have become old and have gotten used to this produsct past 6 months but tere is nothing in the market that beats this . All other devices are pure multimedia outlets .

Best phone for email, texting and calls

Its an absolute pleasure to use this phone for calls, text and emails. The Blackberry service BIS, is fantastic at connectivity.
Camera is good. Music quality is excellent comparing to iphone4S, same league (i am using iphone4s too). The headphones shipped with it are very low quality. Grab a Sennheiser earphones and experience the true music quality. Browser speed is good, lags little behind iphone4S. My bold 9900 came shipped with OS 7.0, which has battery life issues. Updated it to OS 7.1 and battery life is very good. I get 1.5 days out of it.

Mark my words, this phone is not for gaming or downloading and using lots of 3rd party apps or heavy web browsing. This phone is solely for texting, facebook chats, tweets, emails, whatsapp and ocassional browsing and camera.
