Blackberry Playbook (16, Wi-Fi Only) Price: Rs. 12,541

The BlackBerry PlayBook from Research In Motion (RIM) is a sleek looking device that packs in powerful features with a new operating system. The initially enterprise focused tablet from RIM has gone on to ensnare the consumer market too. This touch-based tablet runs on the QNX OS 2.0,, which is the first microkernel based end-to-end real time operating system, prepared to give smooth multi-tasking experience.

The PlayBook is powered by a Cortex A9 Dual Core processor with PowerVR SGX540 graphics and 1 GB RAM that complement the operating system and give you PC like experience in a smaller form factor. The PlayBook sports a 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen that has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The high resolution screen also has 4-finger multi-touch and gesture support features.

A 5 megapixel camera is loaded at the back of the PlayBook that can record Full HD 1080p videos in MPEG format. There is also a 3 megapixel front-facing camera that allows video chatting. The user interface of this RIM device is noteworthy as it combines features from webOS and iOS.

RIM has designed the PlayBook in a form factor that is easy to carry around. The device has a metal chassis with rounded edges that renders it a sophisticated look. On the top edge is the power button of the tablet, along with the volume rocker and play/pause button. If you don't prefer the power button, you can also start the PlayBook with a simple swipe-to-wake gesture touch.

The 425 g weighing BlackBerry tablet has dimensions of 130 x 194 x 10 mm. The two stereo speakers are neatly placed alongside the screen bezel, that give superior audio output. The Ambient Light Sensor present in the PlayBook is responsible for auto-adjusting the brightness of the 7-inch screen. Other sensors loaded into the tablet device include accelerometer, gyroscope and digital compass. The latter, along with GPS helps you navigate your way to any destination.

Storage and Memory

The BlackBerry PlayBook uses a standard 5300 mAh Li-Po battery, which, once fully charged, lets you go unplugged for up to 7 hours. The PlayBook does not have a microSD memory card slot. You can get 16 GB of internal storage space to meet your requirements.

Connectivity and Features

The Bluetooth connectivity in the PlayBook lets you pair a keyboard and mouse to it for ease of use. Other connectivity options include a micro HDMI port, a micro USB port, a charger connector and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The unique feature of the HDMI output is that it can show separate contents on the tablet and the TV to which it is connected. This means you can run a video on the TV while surfing the net on your tablet at the same time.

You can surf the Internet on the PlayBook through Wi-Fi on a Webkit browser. Apart from this, there are various useful features present in this tablet device that make it a must-have gadget. The RIM tablet has the copy and paste feature and packs in Word, Sheet, and Slideshow to Go from DataVis. The browser comes integrated with the Adobe Flash 11.2 and built-in support for HTML 5 giving an enhanced Web experience. Also present is a customized version of the Adobe Reader.

The Document To Go application lets you view PPT, DOC and XLS files. You can also create DOC and XLS files right on the tablet. Connecting to a BlackBerry smartphone via the BlackBerry Bridge allows you to access corporate emails, calendar, address book, task list in real time. Other business features of the PlayBook include corporate intranet browsing and enterprise VPN.

The BB playbook is a stunning product with poor battery, service and customer care supports. After 3 months of my purchase the BB playbook dead due to battery charging failure. The gadget was under warranty when I raised a complaint, none of the Redington service centre even registered it officially… (View complete review)

1 1/2 half years old and still working excellently

I am writing this review after 1 1/2 years of purchase. It is top quality fast and no glitch what so ever. It is really unfortunate that such a neat product is a market failure

Best Tablet PC in the world!!

The best part about this tablet is the ease of navigation. Its smooth and the tablet never hangs or freezes no matter what you want this tablet to do. Sound and video's that you will be watching on it would be crystal clear. And the camera is something that was a surprise to me never expected the 5 … (View complete review)

Absolute Bang for the Buck!

After having read up a lot on the playbook, I decided to take the plunge and pick it up during the offer period.

First bit of advice to anyone considering the Playbook, please do your own research, based on your requirements.

The Playbook is a brilliant device as an overall package. The biggest drawback is the lack of apps and the fact that the future of the device is uncertain. Having said that, OS 2.0 (Which has been reported to be made available in February) will support most Android apps. This should completely take care of the apps 'situation'.

If you do not have a Blackberry phone, y

Though I'm a Apple fanboy

I'm a gadget guy and I'm a Apple fanboy from the days of iPod classic and have owned many apple products but just thought of trying something new (motivated by my positive experience with Windows 7 phones).

Price: 14k or less is absolutely great price for a product of such build quality.

Camera: Works as expected from a 5mp (and 3mp) camera but remember there is no flash.

Speakers: Very good for a tablet, loud enough.

Touchscreen: Excellent resolution, at par with apple stuff. Great for pictures and videos. Pretty good touch sensitivity, though not at par with apple stuff but its pretty go

Important for First Time Buyers of Blackberry:

If you are buying a Blackberry for the first time, please be aware of the following;
1) You have to register in the blackberry website for first logging in / activation of your blackberry. It is very simple: Please go to and get yourselves registered with blackberry. You can use any of your existing e-mail account_id as login. this is the blackberry_id which you have to enter in your playbook when you first install, otherwise it won't start.
2) After switching on your playbook, keep it in tablet in battery charging mode, in a wi-fi zone, longin using your bl

Better and cheaper than ipad 2

my friend got a ipad2 two months and i 've been using playbook for 4 months now here are the differences:-
Apple:pay more get less
playb:pay less get more

AT 14k for 16gb version it's a loot
both are comparable in physical experience as such but play book has a better processor and camera

3)software & UI:
playbook is both multitasking and flash enabled therfore you will get a better browsing experience in playbook whick is not the case with ipad2.

if you are "Appoholic" then go for ipad although os 2.0 supports android

I bought to 4 months ago, i've never used my pc again. The OS is cool, the only problem was lack of apps, well its not a problem anymore. OS 2.0 will release soon which will allow users to run android apps. And with the current offer (free curve) i recommend you to take it.

My thoughts on PB

I was going to buy this tablet as flipkart was giving a heavy rebate.

But then again I don't have a bb, and without bb bridge its still not worth it, doesn't even have a native email client !! leave push mail !!

BBM will NOT come to playbook even on OS 2.0 (feb release).
No 3g, either bridge with bb or use an Android phone with hotspot.

App world is miserable/costly so now RIM is counting on the forthcoming android emulator, you can be sure there will be very few apps optimized for pb and if its android apps you want u can very well go with any of the n number of droid devices.

Many andro

Best Tab below 20k ;)

Guys first of all,i got playbook from a developer contest and not from flipkart.

The experience on Playbook is amazing.
The os is superb(apps will later),i mean the os lagless always. The border around playbook is touch sensitive and there are many swiping techniques which are very useful when navigating through menu. Then there is the BB's superb keyboard,i am now typing from playbook it is spaced very good and feedback effect is very good.

The screen is very good, and i put 1080p videos and it's eye popping although it doesn't catch upto retina's certantly bright, but the contrast i

Everything about the playbook seems to aim at the mid-priced tablet. The lack of a 10" screen and 3G highlights this. However, it provides some really cool features.

The touch response and screen quality of a device determines its usability and ultimately its standing in the market. The playbook scores very well here. The pinch to zoom works smoothly. The UI is neatly done without the need for any buttons. If you have a blackberry device, you can sync everything over bluetooth using Blackberry Bridge. However, if you do not own a blackberry phone its of no use.

The mail application is very

Excellent Product at this Price Point

One thing that truly differentiates this product with the rest of the competition at this price range is that its a blackberry device. The build quality is excellent, the body is strong and the back cover is rubberized to provide a good grip to the user.

The touch response is instant and one gets the premium feel of touch which you would generally find in the costlier touch phones. The OS is fast and impressive, though the device doesn't come with the latest OS 2.0 it has an auto update feature which download a 500 odd MB file automatically when you start it for the first time(ofcourse you go
