The Blackberry 9500 comes with a glossy fusion of piano black stainless steel lines; a faux brushed metal plastic rear. The Storm sports a clean interface with metallic keys, a dedicated camera shutter button and volume rocker. The Storm has a click-able capacitive touchscreen featuring SurePress technology.
The display measures 3.25 inches across diagonal corners and delivers sharp, bright and clear images. The SurePress technology transforms the screen into a massive virtual button pad and lets you feel the downward movement of the screen when a selection is made. The screen only highlights a selection with the initial touch; executing requires a gentle press. This saves a lot of mistypings and accidental opening/closing of programs.
As with all RIM phones, the 9500 Storm is built for fast and seamless communication. It supports separate in-boxes, with Push Mail facility, and the popular Enterprise functionality. The handset comes with DataViz Documents To Go for easy document viewing and editing. It syncs with your PC via Blackberry Desktop Software and supports the normal address book and calendar functions.
The 9500 Storm comes loaded with a d of Instant Messaging apps, including Facebook and Flickr. You can download more from RIM's Application Storefront. A neat tweak is the bedside mode, once you set your alarm, the phone switches off everything except for clock and alarm so there is no chance a call/SMS would wake you at 2 am.
The handset is embedded with an accelerometer, and supports smooth transition between portrait and landscape modes. Tilting the handset into wide screen mode, automatically brings up the full QWERTY keyboard on the screen. The 9500 Storm is a 3G handset with built-in GPS receiver and supports data transfer speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. The 3.2 MP camera can shoot at 2048 x 1536 resolution and comes with autofocus, image stabilization and LED flash. The phone also supports Geo-tagging of your images.
The Blackberry Storm supports excellent video codec recognition and supports WMV, 3GP, MPEG4 and H.264 files. Apart from 3G connectivity, the handset also supports Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP and USB. The built-in speakers delivers surprisingly rich acoustics for a business phone, you can even plug in any generic headphones into the 3.5 mm port. Despite the high resolution display and Push Mail support, the 1400 mAh Li Ion battery delivers up to 5 h 30 min talktime.
