  • Description
Winner of the Man Booker Prize By the author of The Handmaid's Tale and Alias Grace Laura Chase's older sister Iris, married at eighteen to a politically prominent industrialist but now poor and eighty-two, is living in Port Ticonderoga, a town dominated by their once-prosperous family before the First War. While coping with her unreliable body, Iris reflects on her far from exemplary life, in particular the events surrounding her sister's tragic death. Chief among these was the publication of The Blind Assassin, a novel which earned the dead Laura Chase not only notoriety but also a devoted cult following. Sexually explicit for its time, The Blind Assassin describes a risky affair in the turbulent thirties between a wealthy young woman and a man on the run. During their secret meetings in rented rooms, the lovers concoct a pulp fantasy set on Planet Zycron. As the invented story twists through love and sacrifice and betrayal, so does the real one; while events in both move closer to war and catastrophe. By turns lyrical, outrageous, formidable, compelling and funny, this is a novel filled with deep humour and dark drama.

    Simply awesome

A very lengthy novel by Margaret Atwood. A very good story of two sisters. How one becomes the assassin ( murderer) of another unintentionally/ intentionally I.e.the Blind Assassin. If you can read more pages in a particular time then you can read this book.

    Thoroughly enjoyable

Atwood is definitely an author one will remember forever. Her style of writing appears so simple. This work is a tragedy, but it left me wanting more. Extremely glad to have this book because i will surely read it again.

A Novel Within A Novel Within A Novel.

I came across this book when I was directed to a website through StumbleUpon (50 great books to read instead of 50 Shades of Grey).

As usual, I read a few reviews about this book and found it interesting. The concept - Novel within a Novel - itself was wonderful. And yet, there is another tale within the 2nd novel and 'the blind assassin' is the protagonist of that tale. Wow. How more complicated can a novel be?

I could not wait to get my hands on this book. I was a little worried of the p...

    The Blind Assasin

Really its a wonderful and mysterious novel. I felt very boring while reading first 50 pages but later it went on in a interesting way. This novel moves up and down into the life of Laura and Iris who is the main character of this novel.
