Shiva has a unique place in the Hindu pantheon as a deity equally close to the souls of vagrants and addicts, the disabled and the no-hopers and also to a more empowered groups of society. Bol Bam: Approaches to Shiva, by Scharada Dubey, seeks to explore several spiritual yatras or journeys through the particular prism of Shiva worship.
Summary of the Book
In this title, the author asserts that we are constantly inspired by the frequent reminders of God around us. She explains that there are daily calls to prayer, devotional songs, roadside temples and shrines, calendar pictures, but it is pilgrimages that express faith in the most visible way. A yatra means a shared spiritual journey and this book will particularly take you to places central to the worship of Lord Shiva. Perceptions of Shiva’s worshippers offer the conversational cues for interviews with the people whose experiences enrich the essence of this book. You will get to meet pilgrims and priests, political figures and all mainstream participants in yatras undertaken to please their God. The author gleefully joins the throng around Shiva - patiently and intently observing, listening, and absorbing the deep, quiet enchantment of faith.
