With the changing times and latest technology, these hand-painted posters have disappeared and new printed posters have replaced them. And soon enough, these printed posters were replaced by the digitized ones.

Ausaja’s book is an exceptional assemblage of Hindi film posters ranging from the initial hand-printed ones to the latest digitized ones. These posters cover eight decades of the Bollywood from the 1930s to the present time. These posters take the readers on the journey of this art form and also discuss the evolution of Indian cinema. The journey of poster art, beginning from hand-painted to the present times of digitalization actually tells the story of this art form disappearing.

S. M. M. Ausaja is a renowned film-historian and a movie buff.

Ausaja completed his graduation in management from Lucknow. He started his career with Plus Channel’s A Mouthful of Sky, which was India’s first daily, wherein he worked with Mahesh Bhatt and Amit Khanna. Today, he works in TV software production but he is also famous for being a Bollywood memorabilia collector. Moreover, he is passionate about archiving, cinema research and documentation. Ausaja is known to be a Hindi film buff and has always been fascinated with posters of Bollywood movies and movie stars. He has a vast collection of not just Bollywood posters but also record album covers, lobby cards, and other memorabilia reminding him of his love for the Indian movies.
