Honestly, when I first heard the preview of the first single off of this album i.e 'Shadow Days', I was mildly disappointed by the drastic change in John's sound, in comparison to his previous albums like Continuum and Battle Studies. But, the more I listened to it, the more i liked it. Then, when i heard the clips of all the songs, I fell in love with everyone of them and I had to have the CD. This album, 'Born And Raised', is no doubt different from his other slightly blues-ey rock work and it gives you a little twist of the country genre too.
Overall, it's a wonderful album. A must buy for all Mayer fans and for anyone looking for something new and wonderful to listen to.
Key Tracks: Queen Of California, Speak For Me, Something Like Olivia, A Face To Call Home and the title track Born and Raised.
John Mayer once again proves his capability in making smooth transitions into different genres and providing wonderful music in the process. The lyrics are soulful and directly from John's heart and onto the CD.
Not an album to be missed.
I actually got the digital copy before I bought this CD. Heard it for like the nth time but still can't get enough of the beautiful lyrics and connection that he is able to make being a gifted musician so I bought this CD too.
My favorite track keeps on changing after a few times of listening to the whole album every now and then. But I must refer to his experimentation with narrative singing: Waltz Grace Submarine test, January 1967. A very personal song.
His new experimentation with folk and americana genre is remarkable. One can clearly associate with his inspirations and influences.
I'm giving it 5/5 rating because unlike his previous album which had some fatal misplacing when it came to tracklisting did not occur in this one. Other than that you should take the time to spend a few hours with this album.
Thank you John.
People buying this either for the bright eyed boy wonder that played neon or why georgia or even the blazing blues guitarist will be sorely disappointed.
What we have here is an honest attempt into more mature music that attempts to lyrically touch those soft insides within yourself.
What helps, if reading about how and why he made this album, it will then make such perfect sense, you'll be haunted by it.
I repeat, no blazing guitar solos here, just a tired man's journal.
so i always knew that john mayer is a helluva'n artist. i have heard his songs online and own an album of his and thats how i basically know about him. So picking this album was basically because there was only one track(shadow days) that i had heard from all. And i was not wrong, this is one fine record and you will love this, GO BUY IT!
