Best Emergency Lamp
I read in a newspaper that this lamp was designed in collaboration with a leading eye hospital.
This can be seen in the design of the lamp. The ring-shaped arrangement of the LEDs ensures that the light falls on a wide radius and is neither diffuse or focused. This is the biggest advantage of the lamp over others in the market. The other advantage is the lack of flickering. I read that the hospital helped in this area.
With power cuts being the norm all over India, this is a great option for students. It is the best gift item you can give to a young relative.
I got the first one (without the solar panel) offline. I bought three of this model others for relatives via Flipkart. It is just great.

Sad battery life
I bought this product a little while ago, but decided to hold on for the review. It's a sleek design, pretty soft on the eyes. But the battery power is really sad. The first day I charged it as instructed without using the lamp. But the first time I used it, the lamp flickered off within half an hour.
I put the solar panel in the sun every afternoon for a few hours(I have a west facing window). Yet at bedtime the lamp fails everytime. In fact my cheapy 50Rs, clip-on, battery-operated reading light works for more than an hour and still works the next day.
All in All the BPL SSL is not worth its price!

cool factor
This is a very nice product by BPL! I have seen many other solar-powered emergency lights that are just plain ugly and boring. This one is different because of its flexible neck design and the ring-shaped arrangement.
I bought it recently and I am using it as a little-light-in-a-corner way in my room. :-) The brightness is adequate, though I have not tested the battery life yet.
Recommended buy, IMHO.
