  • Description

Brave New World is a classic work of science fiction by Aldous Huxley.

    Summary of the Book

Nature is full of mistakes. Children are flawed, because nature isn’t perfect. So why put up with the inefficiencies of nature in the first place? In this world where people are born in test tubes, everything is controlled by drug traffickers. Everyone is in on it, and genetic engineering, brainwashing and recreational sex and drugs are all the rage. No one is complaining, except for Bernard Marx. He alone wants to break free, and his only escape might be to go to one of the few remaining Savage Reservations, where the old way of life still survives. But is this imperfect life really what Marx wants or is it just his quest to find a cure for his distress? This is Aldous Huxley’s most famous novel, and considered to be the definitive dystopian novel.

    • Aldous Huxley was born on 26 July 1894 near Godalming, Surrey. He began writing poetry and short stories in his early 20s, but it was his first novel, Crome Yellow (1921), which established his literary reputation. This was swiftly followed by Antic Hay (1923), Those Barren Leaves (1925) and Point Counter Point (1928) – bright, brilliant satires in which Huxley wittily but ruthlessly passed judgement on the shortcomings of contemporary society. For most of the 1920s Huxley lived in Italy and an account of his experiences there can be found in Along the Road (1925). The great novels of ideas, including his most famous work Brave New World (published in 1932, this warned against the dehumanising aspects of scientific and material 'progress') and the pacifist novel Eyeless in Gaza (1936) were accompanied by a series of wise and brilliant essays, collected in volume form under titles such as Music at Night (1931) and Ends and Means (1937). In 1937, at the height of his fame, Huxley left Europe to live in California, working for a time as a screenwriter in Hollywood. As the West braced itself for war, Huxley came increasingly to believe that the key to solving the world's problems lay in changing the individual through mystical enlightenment. The exploration of the inner life through mysticism and hallucinogenic drugs was to dominate his work for the rest of his life. His beliefs found expression in both fiction (Time Must Have a Stop,1944, and Island, 1962) and non-fiction (The Perennial Philosophy, 1945; Grey Eminence, 1941; and the account of his first mescaline experience, The Doors of Perception, 1954). Huxley died in California on 22 November 1963.

Great book, which undoubtedly will stand the test of time,a true Classic...!!

Written in 1931,Brave New World was brainchild of Aldous Huxley who captures the advancements in technology to create a society that's ideal in every aspect.People have no problems and they are absolutely happy in what they have...or are they..??
In my opinion it heavily draws from the Indian Caste system which has plagued us for thousands of years ,which still is a bane and hindrance for our society to develop fully.Another dominant influence in this novel is of Shakespeare and if you know s...

A great read on how the world might end up if things were different. The thing that I like the most was when Huxley explains how even if it OK for people to work only 4 hours per day, its actually better for them if they worked for 8 hours. The utmost freedom, but at what cost?

    An awesome book

Aldous Huxley is one of the greatest thinkers of 20th Century and this book is one of his best where great story telling and great thinking meet. I loved this book mainly for the concepts in it. A great story telling too. Must read this if you like classics.
