Breakout Nations (English) (Hardcover) Price: Rs.699

Published in the year 2012, Breakout Nations: In Search Of The Next Economic Miracles is a book by renowned investor Ruchir Sharma, and speaks about the emerging market in different countries across the globe.

Summary Of The Book

Breakout Nations: In Search Of The Next Economic Miracles is a book that is based on the personal views of the author on the emerging markets worldwide. In this book, the author explains to his readers that the only way to identify breakout nations is to travel and keep their eyes open to see the current factors that influence the market and whether they favor growth. The author provides his readers with information on more than two dozen nations. This information covers aspects such as growth, which has been tremendous in the past decade for these nations.

Through the course of this book, Sharma provides his readers with insight into the nations that have high chances of flourishing. The author also provides simple rules for the common man to understand the potential of a market. He also explains that a nation's government may not have a negative impact on the economy if the economic understanding of the leaders is great. In this book, Sharma also notes that nations such as Nigeria, Philippines, and Sri Lanka seem to be on the right road, along with Indonesia’s “efficient corruption”, which proves to be an improvement over the previous method. As a result of his predictions, Sharma has been regarded as a one-hand economist, who is ready to place his reputation at stake.

The main goal of this book is to provide its readers with an answer to a highly simple, yet complicated question about where the money goes. Breakout Nations: In Search Of The Next Economic Miracles was greatly appreciated by its readers, breaking sales records and turning into an international best-seller. This book also received tremendous global media coverage by The Washington Post, The Economist, and The Wall Street Journal. All in all, this book is a must-have for those who want to gain key insight into the emerging markets across the globe.

Breakout Nations

This is a splendid book written in a simple language.
The print is so small and difficult to read
FLIPKART must not stock such prints which are small print editions....or...mention it clearly that it is a small print

The book also dispels several myths that are doing the rounds in our newspapers and TV channels. For example, over hyped version of India's growth story is shattered in this book and the arguments given are very convincing.
A must read for all the economics enthusiasts !

Awesome

Well researched. Though it concentrates mainly on the infrastructure view, it delves in depth into each country's past and then its progress. A must read for all those who would like to look deeper into a country's growth.

Breakout Nations discusses who is likely to be the next economic juggernaut in the emerging world market. The book looks at the infrastructure, governments, economic problems and various other factors that may contribute to the rise and fall of investment opportunities in these markets. However that is not to say that it is filled with a lot of economic jargon. The writing avoids prolixity and is simple and clear for everyone to understand. By the time you finish the book, you should have a pretty clear idea of the financial map of the developing world.

However that is not to say that it is filled with a lot of economic jargon. The writing avoids prolixity and is simple and clear for everyone to understand. By the time you finish the book, you should have a pretty clear idea of the financial map of the developing world.

The book delves into the economies of various countries ranging from Sri Lanka, India, Nigeria, China, Korea, Philippines etc…It helps you get a very clear, to the point, understanding of the situations in these countries without a lot of excess information. Ruchir Sharma seems to be a very itinerant investor; hence many of his views are first hand as can be inferred by his visits to the countries under discussion. The entire book is very well structured with chapters on individual countries and sub chapters discussing various issues of the country. It can make for an excellent reference when specific information is required.

All this being said, I do feel that this book bases everything on the GDP and per capita income of the country, if these aspects are good Ruchir is all for it. I know the GDP and per capita income can be very good indicators of the economic conditions, however this may not always be the case.
Secondly many of his arguments seem to be logically fallacious. His argues for reforms based on how they have affected the economies of other countries, which might not always stand true due to the varying economic conditions.

However I would definitely recommend this book, to anyone who has even the slightest incline towards this genre. He makes very convincing cases for many countries, and does an amazing job explaining their economies.
