a referencer to Bipin Chandra book only.

Spectrum book on modern india should be used as a reference to Bipin Chandra Pal book where ever one finds a topic or sub topic difficult to understan as topics in this are straight and have extra referencer from Internet (copy, paste). It should be better to make notes from Bipin Chandra book for Civils (this book should be read along while making notes from Bipin) however, one may copy a little few points from this but convert them in to ones own language

Finally a reference to others

Not up to the level of Civils.

Concise and apt , unbiased version of Indian History

Unlike the case of Bipin Chandra's book , this book is not a propagandist of Nehruvian philosophy and yeah we do know Nehru didn't play as big a role as high chair he got to sit on.

On the book, it is an awesome book , nutshelled , concised and apt bookwithout leaving minutest of details.

2012 CSAT question about national social conference is there in one line, same with 2013 simon commission in one line and all others

I would certainly recommend it over Bipin as every aspirant's immediate need is to optimise time and efficiency.

A Good Resourceful Book

the book is a great resource and is a perfect recipe for knowledge seekers and competitive exam students like upsc and other state exams where questions from history are asked...but it is also good for people who wish to know about the sequence of happenings and events that impacted our freedom struggle....going by the size of the book..i got a bit disappoint initially but when i read through the pages i realised that great things come in small package!!!!! the book is very systematically written...nothing superfluous is added and nothing important is left...the ready reference data at the end of the book like personalities associated with specific movements, governer generals and viceroys and specific movements and events in their rule etc etc. comes really handy...i must say its a good buy.. thanx flipkart for offering the book at a cheaper than market rate price....i have stopped visiting crowded bylanes and rude shopkeepers of nayi sadak and chawri bazar(old delhi, which are famous as the largest book markets in India), lajpat nagar etc because i get the books at more discounted price at my home through flipkart...keep up the good work...

BOOK for every serious aspirant

Spectrum Brief History of modern India is written by RAJIV AHIR (IPS punjab police) and contributions by R Vidya and Sabina Madan also
the books covers possibly all the facts 1857 onwards , and much to my surprise some post independance issues are also presented with facts .

Yes the font size is small
Yes the paper quality is on lower side
Yes the price of book is Rs 155 (earlier it was 141)

Nodoubt it is complete factual book........................... but one needs to understand that CONCEPTS are only built upon FACTS known .
This is book is for every candidate who is in the RAT RACE(as i myself am in one) to qualify an exam and History being part of his syllabus

As the book is by the RAJIV AHIR (IPS) sir , so u can easily understand , somebody who himself passed the mother of all exam, U WONT REGRET BUYING IT

A brief synopsis of Indian History since 1857

Price: Rs 142. Delivery Time : 5 daqys (Indore - MP)

The book is basically UPSC prep material and gives a synopsis of Indian History since 1857. Since it is meant for exams it toes the accepted ideas and notions and steers clear of any contentious insights/questions. Thus it does the job it sets out to do. It is like notes compiled for Competitive Exam and covers all the points. I found the book very good as I was looking for a book which covers the major developments of this period in short. I am not preparing for any exam but just wanted to reacquaint myself with the Freedom Struggle, British Rule, Social Reforms and this is an excellent starting point.
On the flip side the printing left too much to be desired. And yes it is sort of pocket-size book.
