FROM ONE OF THE MOST BRILLIANT MINDS OF OUR TIME COMES A BOOK THAT CLARIFIES HIS MOST IMPORTANT IDEAS

Stephen Hawking’s worldwide bestseller A Brief History of Time remains a landmark volume in scientific writing. But for readers who have asked for a more accessible formulation of its key concepts—the nature of space and time, the role of God in creation, and the history and future of the universe—A Briefer History of Time is Professor Hawking’s response.

Although “briefer,” this book is much more than a mere explanation of Hawking’s earlier work. A Briefer History of Time both clarifies and expands on the great subjects of the original, and records the latest developments in the field—from string theory to the search for a unified theory of all the forces of physics. Thirty-seven full-color illustrations enhance the text and make A Briefer History of Time an exhilarating and must-have addition in its own right to the great literature of science and ideas.

Comparing with "A Brief History of Time"

It is certainly a fun read, and manages to achieve a very lofty goal -- making liberal arts grads understand both the desirability and potential implications of reconciling general relativity and quantum physics. Overall, it tried to walk too fine a tightrope between discussing complex subjects and … (View complete review)

Excellent Book!!

Very lucid and excellent read for newbees like me. It covers a lot of ground in explaining about universe and various theories which try to explain how it works. Stimulating and enjoyable read

This book is a revised and updated version of the author's earlier book-A Brief History of Time.

Read this book if you are fascinated by and want to know more about our universe, its creation and its future, nature of time and time-travel, etc.

Below I summarize the subject matter discussed in each chapter (1-12). Though scientific theorems and concepts listed below may sound very technical, the text is lively and easy-to-understand for a lay person. There are no equations or complicated mathematical jargon; however, an elementary knowledge of Physics is required.

A Briefer History of Time

A really excellent book, I could complete reading in one go, recommended for all science loving people. Many of the facts, particularly on going to the past and future (time travel) are bordering on the thoughts of oriental philosophy. The Chapter on the The Forces of Nature and Unification of Physics seems a bit difficult to understand/ comprehend.

Brilliant...Absolutley Brilliant.... There's more to this book than what meets the eye. Must Read

Stephen W. Hawking is very likely the most famous physicist in the world. This is partially as a result of the public's amazement that a man who is so severely disabled by motor neuron disease (Hawking has lost almost all ability to move his extremities and can only "speak" through the aid of an specially designed electronic device), can be such a brilliant scientist. But part of Hawking's fame is in his wiliness to present to the general public his fascinating views on Cosmology.

What makes Stephen W. Hawking's popular introduction to Cosmology different than others, is that it's wri…

Comparing with "A Brief History of Time"

It is certainly a fun read, and manages to achieve a very lofty goal -- making liberal arts grads understand both the desirability and potential implications of reconciling general relativity and quantum physics. Overall, it tried to walk too fine a tightrope between discussing complex subjects and at the same time attempting to be as conversational and accessible as possible. Some of these concepts are very very difficult to the uninitiated, so the cursory treatment the authors sometimes give them, in their attempt to make the book accessible and to live up to the "briefER" in the title, actu…

Very lucid and excellent read for newbees like me. It covers a lot of ground in explaining about universe and various theories which try to explain how it works. It also gives an excellent view of history of how various theories evolved and the mistakes made by some scientist even explaining why those mistakes were made and the very possibility that what we are thinking as an inteligent theory today can become obsolete? This book has come long way from "The Brief History of Time" that was published around a decade ago.

A more layman's book to modern physics. Not bad.

The cover page kind of summarizes this book - Science classic made more accessible.

And rightly so. This book is for the starters. It contains no equations to intimidate you. It contains illustrations to make you understand some complex stuff. Fairly decent attempt at explaining modern physics.

The only problem is that, this book, still requires some background in physics for you to grasp things well. A layman might find it boring or slightly incomprehensible, not because of the lack of lucidity but because of the breadth of concepts put in a few hundred pages.

If yo…
