Brother - DCP J125 Multifunction Inkjet Printer

Brother DCP-J125 is an excellent choice for home users / SOHO. Though it is a relatively new brand in India in AIO devices (although they have been into fax machines, sewing machines etc earlier), from my experience this device can challenge any other brand in its price range and hold its ground.

I have been using it for over 5 months now and I am very happy with the results from this device.
Pros:
1. Good performance in all areas - printing, scanning and copying.
2. Cheaper cartridges when compared to other brands - all 4 cartridges together under 1050Rs (including taxes).
3. Drivers are available for linux. I have installed it in my office Linux PC and all functionalities are available thru Linux Software like Simple Scan, Flegita and XSane.
4. Third party CISS are available. One of my friends is using this device with CISS and the results are amazing while the per-print-ink-cost is much lower than original ink. I'd like to warn my friend (I hope he reads this) and others though that installing of CISS would void the warranty of the device if there be any problems later.
5. I believe the device uses pigment ink and not dye ink. Usage of pigment ink lessens the chances of clogging and drying.
6. The device performs the cleaning of its head automatically every once in a while to further reduce the chances of clogging.

Cons:
1. For duplex prints, you have to open paper feeder tray and reinsert the paper for the second side print. If you are not printing more than ten or twenty pages a day, it won't bother you.

My usage:
I print mostly letters (150-200 in a month) and building plans (30-40 in a month) in A4 size, full colour. Even the finest of lines are legible and sharp. The overall output looks very pleasant and professional. Photos printed on inkjet photo paper are also studio quality.

My opinion:
I am open to using the off-beat and lesser known options and therefore ended up trying this brand and model and I am happy with the choice.

If there was a Legal Size scanner instead of an A4 scanner and an automatic duplex printing option, Brother DCP-J125 would be the unchallenged winner in its category.

But still that wont deter me from giving me this gem of an All-In-One a thumbs up and 5 stars, no less.

Its a fine fine MFP. Wide range of features on offer. Print quality is great. The print speed and running cost although not world-beating, are acceptable enough for modest home usage.Had my concerns regarding the brand,but the customer support from Brother is just fine. All in all, the product is well worth the money.

2.NO CONNECTIVITY OPTION LIKE WIFI AND BLUETOOTH.
3.LITTLE BIT ON HEAVY SIDE.
CONCLUSION:-
1.CONS DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU ARE HOME USER.
2.CONS MATTER FOR OFFICE USER WHO WANT FAST PRINTING SPEED OR PEOPLE WHO PRINT BULK PAGES OR IMAGES OR NEED WIFI OR BLUETOOTH.
3.VALUE FOR MONEY.
4.NO OTHER PRINTER IS AS GOOD AS THIS PRINTER.
DO I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO OTHER BUYER:- 100% YES!!!!!!
RESULT:- GO AHEAD AND BUY IF YOU ARE HOME USER.

I've used HP printers since 2002 (brought another one in 2011 i.e. HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer - B210a)
overall HP experience:- not great (read as horrible nightmares)
Due to :
1). High ink costs.
2). also recently they did some OVER-smartness by installing a chip that recognizes the total number of pages printed (and whether it exceed expected rate) and whether the ink cartridge is genuine or not (it disables the printer if u get caught more than once).
3). no provision for installing CISS or tank systems (read note no "2)." above)

still i got to mention (even though i hate HP printers now)
PROS of HP: gr8 print qty (quite gr8 actually)
gr8 scan quality.

now enter june,2012:
I wanted a printer that:
1. is gr8 printer
2. is low cost (but not cheap)
3. prints without burning a hole in the pocket (read as low INk costs)
4. complimentary scanner and copy mechanism is welcome.
5. shall have CISS or tank system available in the market
6. RELIABLE
7. paisa wasool in small period
8. is tested to be reliable and recommended by all the owner's of that printer

since Brother DCP-J125 fits most of the above requirements i decided to give it a try (against my parents wishes coz it was 2nd printer within a year).
what i got for Rs. 6630 (yes prices were lower at that time) was:
1.an awesome printer.
2.prints everything
3. one extra set of genuine cartridges
4. paisa wasool on fifth day (printed 3000 pages (yes its 3000 pgs not 300) books )
5. very simple to use (any 1 can print)
6.prints/scans directly from SD (yes SD not microSD =you need microSD adapter not included in package)
7. paper rarely gets stuck (read as: if u didn't know what settings are required for that particular type paper,it may get stuck) still if it does it has got very simple way to remove paper
8.dedicated color and B/w copy buttons.
9. satisfaction on my face and smile on my parents face( not a bad choice after all)

what i miss in this printer:
1.Touch screen (HP printer has got 1)
2.Bluetooth (again HP printer has got 1)
3."BEST"
Print quality black (best)-Up to 600 x 600 dpi
Print quality color (best)-4800 x 1200-optimized dpi
Scan resolution, optical-Up to 1200 dpi
HP has ALL 3
4. better paper feed mechanism and duplex printing capability(although not expected from a printer at such price)
5.better quality "copy". If u happen to get a photocopy of ur driving license/id in B/W.all you get is "black box" instead of ur photo (there must be a solution for this will update if i find 1)

My verdict:
I've never believed in "just go for it blindly" lines in the reviews.but after using this TOTALLY AWESOME printer...without hesitation i will say

"GO FOR IT........BLINDLY and you wont regret it ever that's a BROTHER"s PROMISE"

I have been a Brother user since long back. This is my second Brother printer and its among the best available in the market today. The printing quality is superb, even the tiniest of details are visible in even normal quality prints and the scanner quality is excellent with crisp and sharp image scans. Also supports ink tanks for those who have bulk printing needs. Even otherwise, the printing uses very less ink; cartridges are cheap and long lasting.

Recommended for home as well as small office users.

Only drawback is that there is no manual feeder for double sided printing, you have to open the paper try to print on both sides of the sheet.

Also as Flipkart is giving you four extra cartridges, plus the four Brother provides in the box, you can go on a long printing spree before ordering new cartridge refills.
