  • Description
"Brown like dosas, samosas & sticky chikki" is an Indian story book. In a media-driven environment of "fair is beautiful", this book for kids is valuable for building positive self-esteem as it tells the child that thoughts and actions define you and not your skin colour. _ Says Nandita Das, Actor & Activitist about this book: "The bias for fair skin has existed in our society from time immemorial. I want to be defined by what I do, how I think, my passions and talents and not by the color of my skin. While altering mindsets is not easy, every step in the right direction contributes to that change. This enjoyable book addresses this issue without being preachy. All it says is you are lovely the way you are! Delighted that this book is celebrating that. A must buy for parents who want their children to grow up with self-confidence and respect for all." Selected by RobinAge, India Favourite Newspaper for Children as one of 8 Bedtime Books for Kids _ This book is perfect for bedtime reading and for parents looking for books on moral stories and life-skills for children.__

    Well written, Beautiful illustrations

I truly enjoyed reading this. The rhyming verse flows well and the story is insightful without being preachy. The illustrations are beautiful. Great theme for Indian girls to challenge the horrors of the beauty industry that makes millions trying to convince females that white is better.

    A good read for children

This is an amazing book!! It really does give the message that there is so much more to a person than the colour of their skin, or how they look. Well written and lovely colourful pictures!!

    An Awesome read

This book has a wonderful story for everyone. Samaira is an adorable girl who teaches us a beautiful lesson on self acceptance and self confidence. She is a girl with a lot of courage who stands firm. She does not give into the pleadings of Anahi to change the colour of her skin, instead she rejoices in her natural beauty and emerges with a stronger self image.
A beautiful message on inner beauty and celebrating inner strength.
Beautiful illustrations make the story a pleasure to read.

    A brilliant book!

In a world that's obsessed with 'fair & lovely', its good to see a book on 'brown & bold'. Distinct and pertinent, this book is a must read for kids of any age group!

    Perfectly told tale.

Take the one thing that you don't like about yourself and more often than not that's the one thing that makes you more special.

It is both stirring and thought-provoking.
Each illustration does a superb job of expanding the sentiments expressed in the text.
